Question Zap Pro or Victoria Utlra?

I currently have a large Zap Wedge that I believe is 3/4's thick. I bought it at a surf shop in Clearwater when I was a total n00b. I weigh 145lbs and skimming this board is like skimming a damn log. I need something lighter, thinner (5/8's) and longer to get out to waves and have better response for tricks and what not. I'm not made of cash right now so I was thinking a medium Zap Pro or Victoria Ultra Vac.

I am also unsure as to which online retailer is the one to go with. Which of these is the best?
    - East Coast Skimboards
    - EOS
    - Skim City
    - Skim Shop

    Thanks for the help!

well i have a zap pro and it's been pretty good to me, but alot of my friends' pro's have cracked really easily, so i don't think zaps are very durable, but there a pretty good board for beginning to get big in skimming

Very good point. Hope you don't have rocks or lots of big shells over there...

all I can say is that I broke my wedge in 1/2 and i basically did the same to the ultra I had, which was(is) too big in the first place.
the ultra lasted about a year while the zap might have made 6 months of less riding it.
I like the ultra more than the pro, i have ridden both on the same day, side by side, same size, and the ultra has a more responsive feel to it.

From what you said I think the Ultra Vac would be a good choice. It is the same performance shape that Victoria uses on their top of the line boards, yet it fits into your budget. It is a good balance between float and manuveribilty for someone at your level. The downside is that the reason that it is less expensive is because it is built with more affordable materials, but you will run into that at all boards in that price range. They arnt bad boards, but you should try to take good care of it to help your board have a long life.

    And to answer your question...

Thanks for all the helpful responses! Apparently these threads are made on a fairly regular basis so sorry for making another one. I didn't realize that.

As of right now it looks as if I will be going with a Ultra Vac from Skim Shop. Do the Utlra's come in 5/8's or just 3/4's?

In response to the durability issues, I usually skim at IRB and there is a plethora of shells there. Even with that being said it seems that the Ultra is the way to go.

However, I do believe that Zaps are made right here on the west coast of Florida, so would it behoove me to just go ahead and order a Zap straight from them to avoid dealing with online websites and crazy shipping costs?

The Ultras are only 3/4". All boards at they level (Sol Pin Large and Zap Pro) are pretty much 3/4", because it gives alittle bit more float for riders who are getting their skills down and/or reaching smaller/harder to reach waves. If I were you I wouldnt really shy away from it because it might be able to give you some more speed and help in getting out to waves.

I hope that helps in your decision, but even if you don’t come to us for your board I want you to find one you are going to be psyched on. So feel free if you have any more questions I will do my best to answer them.

The SOL is a lot cheaper so I am leaning in that direction now. However, which do you think would be the lightest and most easy to maneuver of the 3? I also noticed that the Utlra is longer and more narrow than the Pin and the Pro. For the Gulf Coast which is truly the best board based on the conditions?

Can some answer my question above. I'm about to buy but I am curious as to which of the 3 boards is the lightest and easiest to maneuver.
