getting hurt skimming..
got hurt today skimming at a spot... board hit me in the head and did some damage...7 stitches right by the hairline...pretty crazy cause i didnt even know i got the gash until i saw the blood running down my face then had to ask adam hayward if there was a cut or anything an all he said was..."stiches" and i was waiting and wanting so badly for him to say just kidding...but nothing like that came out his mouth, so bummed

Oh yeah speaking of which once you get the stitches out if they still say stay out of the water just put superglue over it and you'll be good.

minor skin abrasions, sand rashes, bone bruised shins and some shells embeded in my skin, nothing notable really.

ive had the minor stuff. bruises, small splits. doin a shuv-it i got a good one to the hell. pressure from the rail split my skin at my acheillis. My mom got some surgical glue tubes from work and i glued it shut. for pole vaulting regionals i had to cut a damn hole in the heel of my shoe so i didnt have pain/split it.
Then i went to SoLag. mid trip took a board to the head on Aliso skimmin alone because my buddies had gone home...ive gotten hit in the head once or twice but with the lack of power in FL and prob the angle, no split...Not this time...it felt bad...i could put my finger in the split. it wasnt drippin blood badly tho. I was going to walk to the Laguna Reef Inn where we were stayin, then catch the public bus or walk the mile to South Coast...luckily some couple was like "o wow do you need some first aid" (lifeguards arent out..early morn sesh)...so they drive me to the ER, saving me much time.
2.5 hours later, a 5 staple job to the front/side of my head close to the hairline, i was out. Its not been almost 2 weeks. mom removed the staples last thurs. Heads fine.
Did i skim after that while in SoLag? Hell yeh i did! Despite warnings of Aliso having some of the dirtiest water ever, i couldnt not skim the last 3 days i had...i waited a day for it to dry up a bit and 2-3 times a day put 91% proof isoprop alcohol and Bacitracin (like neosporin) on it. No infection, thank God.

I maybe should have gotten stitches but just did the butterfly bandage thing and now have a little scar but it isn't too noticable unless you're looking for it.

Yeah I actually kept skimming that day and just cleaned it out when I got home. It had a lump under it like a knot on my head/bruise.

No infection. Still have a nasty scab though. Probably should of gotton stiches or atleast had them clean it up but what the hell

yeh that looks nasty puffed up and red around it. good thing you didnt get infection.
Who was the person that has the huge deep as V cut on their shin that required staples and stitches? when i got my injury i was looking thru old injury/accident threads and it was posted. it was HUGE.

na i wont be up tomorrow...but im not sure about the swell..the doc tried to give me staples but i said no and asked alternatives...so i got stiches and medical adhesive glue...and i go home tomorrow, so stoked

Rails are so sturdy and hard. You know how bad it hurts when the rail barely hits your shin when your board is caught on an income wave. Imagine a rail slamming into your shin. That gash is the result.

Ever seen Bearded? one rider (forgot) gets a gnarly slice on his shin and they have to cut the fat out and such. dont know if that was a board or a rock either. dont remember. But think a board being shot by a west coast wave (have some push) into your shin. But i felt cool going to South Coast (same place he went)
yeah the rail def put me in the hospital today...and i didnt make this thread about coming home...it was about my gash...it was really weird cause i have hit my head before and it has hurt to no end...but this, there was no pain
