Don't call it "The River." Rivers are for pussies, call it the lake.

if you can pull off a big victory early in the game, you will control the game

im a fan of other poker games like, acey duecy, follow the queen, and 7 card stud. those are more fun to me, but hold'em is better than the standard 5 card draw

+1, noone is as good as they think they are. Play a virtually straightforward game and earn some bankroll. Don't think you are good. Everyone has a tell.

I play Texas Hodem ince in a week with 9 other friends. Everyone just puts 10 dollars in. Its more for the fun, but playing without money does not make sense.
I agree Duffskim, 7 card stud is more fun and more challenging.

i got 99th on a 3000 person limit omaha freeroll the other night. kept me up til 5 and i didnt win anything. im going to vegas next summer with my family for my 21st and im going to enter a small wsop event.

if you never go all in against a bigger chip count, you can never be out. dont go all in with less than a pair of kings. dont chase flushes or straights past 4th. go read about implied odds

Last month one of my buddies finished 5th in a 4000 person online tourtment. As a result, he won a seat at a satalite game that the winner of the game would win a seat at the World Series Poker game this year. That tortnment he won was normally a $4000 by in... He played shitty in that series though and didn't win the coveted spot...

we do the same thing. its so much fun. and theyre are some of us who are good (who's to decide) but without money is just pointless. there's no incentive to win and play the right way.

didnt read the whole thread yet, but i saw someone bragging so i guess i will a little.

i remeber when i was a freshman and a sophmore i would go play with the seniors and the kidsthat gradueated the year before. i came top 3 in a few $300+ pots. Once online i entered a $1 tourny. with l ike 3k people. came in 2nd. lasted so long i had to give in because school the next morning. i think i got like 300 bucks from it. but like the frist 180 placeed anywher from $1 up
