    Default Traction backpad

Since I saw the arch bar topic I created this.. and.. I apologize if this has been asked a million times but since I am newb, I'll ask again and you can up your post count.

Does anyone use the X Trak Pyro on their board, is it ok for skimboards?

And what traction pad do you use and what have you found to hold up the longest?

Pretty much any traction pad will do and the different designs in the company don't affect performance very noticably. Some people prefer different companies mostly based on personal preference of how they feel beneath the feet. However, when people say a certain brand falls of first it is in my opinion that it was merely not applied or treated correctly in the first place.

I currently use an Igniter X-trak, and it works just fine, I haven't tried astrodeck out simply because my local surf shops don't carry them.

IMO the overall point of traction pads is to keep your feet from slipping, If it succeeds in this then its a good pad.

Be sure to follow the directions on the pad to a tee to ensure maximum stickyness.

    Hope this helped.

Thanks for the info. I was just concerned because I didn't see any of the online skim boarding stores selling the Pyro. Didn't know if their was a width difference/issue or not.

    I don't think so.
However, that is my opinion and others may feel differently.

I use X Trak Slingshot right now, it's lasted for a year, Ive noticed the ends of the actual slingshot pad is starting to come up and the kicker started coming up but I glued it back down, and its as good as new. Ive tryed my friend's poorboy pad, very comfy, I like it better. But better grab them while they last.

I just put the pyro on and my measuring ain't too good. Got it a 1/2 inch off, side of board to side of pad. Meaning one side from edge of board to pad is 1" and the other side is 1/2", grrr. I hate being a perfectionist.

lol, thats a lil uneven, oh well, it'll be fine most likely. I dont think it will affect much being off that little.

white astrodeck back pad for me. love. it. i really don't think it matters too much as long as there is some kind of traction.its the arch bar thats real important because your foot could slip forward easier and tear a groin muscle.

I have found that with any pad you get...make sure the surface is squeaky clean. apply the pad once. Do not keep sticking it and peeling it until it's perfect because this will degrade the adhesive. Once pad is applied make sure you add pressure for firm even hold. Once that is complete, use a hair dryer on it to heat it, ( I think poorboy was the only one that recommended this, and it works). Not direct heat. Move the dryer around. And finally. leave in the hot sun for 10 minutes. This has been tried and has been found to be the best way. At least by me. Good luck.

here is what i do to make sure my pads go on perfectly straright:

Get a pencil and a meter stick, yard stick, or any other straight edge. Draw a straight line from the nose to the tail.
Then line up the center of your center pad with the line and stick it one. work off of that with the other pieces and your pad will always be perfectly centerd. (if your worried about it) then line up your arch bar too if you got one.

    Easy as pie...

uuuuhhh, actually i never worried about taking off the pencil, if it dont come off, then just use chalk, or a permanent marker hehee.

Pencil doesn't show up on my board, so I just used the eraser. It'll smudge and then the lines will just rub off.
