I have but haven't really used it much. It took a lot of getting used to when compared to my smaller Zap which is much faster/heavier.
Anyone rid a Syndrome board? Should I put the time into getting used to it?

I've riden my friends, it was pretty solid. I'd get one except I don't feel like spending alot of money for them.

i rode one from this kid down in florida. wasn't anything special but im sure their nice boards. my vic road as good as his.
The problem is it's just SO much slower (since it's so ridiculously light) than my shitty Zap, I outrun the board constantly, don't go as fast as I feel I should be going, etc. It was definitely stupid of me to buy such an expensive board without riding it first, but I really want to take advantage of it and learn to use it correctly.
it just takes getting use to. i have one and i love the board. its what i norm like my boards long and thin. i've seen a few good skimmers try to use my syndrome but couldnt. but once you get use to its all good. i think if you dont have good speed or cant get on smoothly then this isnt the type of board you should get.
Your mothers cute. Whats her name?
Eat your heart out Barbra Streisand!
You chase the board down the beach dont you? I mean as opposed to one step, thats prolly what the loss of speed is.Originally Posted by jeff.

i skimmed with a bunch of japanese guys and they all had them. they were suer super thin.

Yeah, Ive seen a kid around here ride one, maybe youve seen him too Dzan, but its a grey one and he likes to do those shuvits, makes the board fly, theyre super lightweight, Ive held it before.
ok, jeff, i hate to say this, but ur problem is in your drop or your skimming. hands down, Syndrome boards are the best boards i've ever ridden-they are at the top tier of skimboards, easily equal to Exiles IN MY OPINION. they are the fastest board i've ridden as well, which is funny to hear you say a light board is slow...i'm nto gonna get into board mechanics and physics because it's ben done numerous times..suffice it to say that syndromes are fast. maybe you got a lemon, whihc does happen, but more than likely you need to think about your skimming. they are hard boards to get use to and you have to actually skim them if you wana see how good they can really be - taking it out ever 4 or 5 times you skim is not gonna do it. especially going from a thick board like a zap to a board like a syndrome(thickness and shape wise..not knocking Zaps)
bottom line: Syndromes are amazing boards and i personally cant wait to get my new one next week. and this is all my opinion so you dont have to pay attention to me at all if you don't want to...

I know you said you didn't want to get into the science of it, but logically, wouldn't the heavier the board, the more speed it has?
There's no doubt in my mind I own a great board, I just had never really skimmed anything besides Zaps and wasn't ready for the time it was going to take to get used to something so different. I look forward to giving it a few hard weeks this summer and getting good with it. I can't wait actually.

Yes it's true the Zaps are heavier boards and are faster only one way, by chasing it down the beach, I know, Ive done it. One step with all else, youll notice the difference..
if you can get on the board with RDS.. rest will follow.Originally Posted by morgan

good to hear you say you want to get better an not just say the board sucks jeff...that's the best way to progress. you would love the board once you really get use to it.
also, when u have time, even at home or in your yard, practice one steping - just doing the motion - that will also help in keeping your speed. above all else, as BE says," run faster."
How does this thing work?
where do you live Jeff? and what size are you and your board?
Yeah, the older boards (shaped last year) were pretty thin in the rails. The boards were still 5/8" thick in the center, but we were planing the rails down and tapering them a lot more. This really increased the hold down the line, but did take some getting used to.Originally Posted by Harrison Welsh
Since then, the newer boards have much fuller rails. They're still not completely boxy, so the feel down the line is pretty much the same, but the ride in general is a lot more forgiving. We've learned that you can still get that grippy line hold without going crazy with rail taper. I think this fuller rail takes away a lot of the "learning curve" that some people notice. Basically, you don't have to be an "expert" just be able to get on the board.
Yeah like the first 10 or so sessions on my board i wanted to take a hammer to it. But once you get used to it it is a great board.
hows my posting?

I wasn't. I posted that this morning around 8 I think.
I live in Boston, skim mostly on Nantucket.Originally Posted by skimcentral

if your from boston you can do what a lot of the tourists from boston do in the summer... take the train to singing beach. i would think nantucket is farther but i dunno how far it is.
A large is pretty big for only 158..Im 170 and have a medium large, if i buy another one i will definately get a medium..
I'm 115lbs and I ride a ML

holy shit...im 185 and i ride a ML... i coudl tell with my old drop on really far out days i had trouble keeping speed but on good days it was perfect...im getting another ML
walruz, if ur only 115, you should be riding like a M or a small
How does this thing work?
Do you run slow?
thats what i thought, a medium to small would fit his weight unless you run slow or have a sloppy transition..Originally Posted by Tad M.
I've got a nice one step and am one of the fastest runners in my grade. But the ML was a mistake, I ordered what said was a medium syndrome off skim city, but when I read the little writing Anton puts on his boards it said medium large. It rides fine though, I'll deffinatley go down a size for my next board.
-David Behar
can you do 3's with it being that big for you?..
sorry i meant a 360-shove-it or a 540..
Well i can get the board around pretty easily, but just cant land them.
