i dont think you understand. im taking kids here skim on a wood board for 1 week at the most and see someone on a carbon board and go out and buy it. i mean i understand they want to advance but it gets annyoing when kids read like 2 things about skimboarding then think they know what they're talking about. and even more go find a picture of brad evers or someone and say its them. typical high school bullshit. but thats like any sport so i guess thats something you can't stop.
surfing deals w/ the same bullshit though, and skating definitely has some of those elements as well (kids claiming somebody else in a pic is them)

Kids from the ghetto are not interested in skimming. Beach areas generally are not low-income. Most people I know who skim and have trouble affording new boards could cut back on partying just a little or something and have plenty of funds for boards.
I have been hearing this "skimming is gonna get big" talk since the 80's--personally I don't care if it gets bigger. Benji--growth is not always positive. Let me tell you it was better in the old days when skimming was not as big. And better before the "growth" of Pinellas County. This pushed along the whole dredging thing. It is inevitible of course but.... As long as I can go skimming and catch waves I am fine with it.

if we sponser alot of hot chicks to walk around with skimboards, it will grow
edit: and beer. hot chicks, skimboards, and beer.

Cant we all just get along ?
yea that sounds pretty good. here have a beer
yea get some water under the bridge!
well i dont know about water under the bridge but i do know about BudWiser under the bridge.
or it goes something like that
The sport can only really grow when were skimboarding all over the world. There's countless beaches all over the world where nobody skims, and i think if we can get people to skim these places(little groups of locals) the sport can grow. Otherwise were going to add more people to over crowded beaches, not that the beaches are over crowded yet, but thats what will happen.

im not quite sure about that.. cause you cant really skim everywhere.. i mean in holland there are hardly waves.. but every beach is perfect for flatland.. i dont know, to be honest i just dont hope it will become too mainstream

i hope it will become as big as it would be enough to let me live off my website and magazine.
skimportugal.com all you need to know about portuguese skimboarding...and more.
may the skim be with you
i think this issue also is involved in secret spots.
Mo--if you want to see overcrowded skim beaches come here sometime in the summer when there is an ankle high swell!!

bingo! Mike, do you think the sport is growing faster here than in other places? Each year around Christmas I see a ton of new skimmers with new boards

If you tell someone in your school that you skim most likely there going to say o so you throw that wooden piece of board and run and jump on, or maybe someone asks what you did this weekend and you said skimboarding, they would have a kind of weird look. Therefore i think that it would be hard to get that sandskimming picture out of there minds to make the sport mainstream
I don't want to see that.Originally Posted by skimcentral
