Default I realized 3 things last night:

    1. Seal Beach can and does produce a fairly decent sider.

    2. I really, really suck trying to ride a sider.

    3. It is possible to skim well past sunset if the pier you're skimming next to has some really powerful sodium vapor lamps burning.

    That is all.

Yes, there is a concrete wall under the pier. They just repaired/extended it a bit last year too.

Lucky for me there were only two other guys out, and neither of them laughed out loud at me. Of course going frontside was never my strong suit.

Take some pictures next time. I always like to see what form of jetty/pier/rocks/cliff makes a sider work and how different they are

the only difference though is that there is a slope at seal beach right now but i guess the sider forms off of the wall under the pier..

Yes, it does form off the seawall, and there is almost always a slope at Seal. From what I've seen, the sider is totally dependent on swell size and direction.
