anything is skimmable as long as it's not frozen. wetsuit is your friend.
and gloves, booties, and hood. although if its really cold and you need something 7mm thick it might not be worth it seeing as it would be hard to walk much less skim.Originally Posted by kcskimkid

how cold is it up there? i've been skimming the 50degreeish water around here with my shortie suit, any colder and i can't do it too long.
I skimmed the US side of Lake Erie today, it was tolerable with shorts and a top. Air was about 53 with a slight wind...
Damn and I thought 60 degree water was cold..

Yeah right now on lake michigan the water is pretty cold, i skimmed last weekend with a wetsuit on and some home made booties haha. But my head was getting cold after getting takin out by a few waves. The air was really cold to iwth all the wind. I think if its decently warm out like 60 or above you should be fine with just a wetsuit.
We have an "interesting skim spot out here that we call Cancer Cove. It's right next to a power plant, so the water is in the 70s-80s. Hopefully my gear still works in a few years![]()

Because skimmer612 felt the urge to give his input to someone that's not even on the boards anymore.
