haha!! I wish I could do that. He's in another Flight Division (6 hours away) and hubby had to fly him back to Richmond two weeks ago. He was acting like a cocky s.o.b. and wanted to take the controls and fly it himself. But hubby's boss told hubby that he needs to fly him back and not the other guy. Hubby needs more flight hours. He flies helos. And the cocky s.o.b. ranted about not being able to fly it. So on Friday hubby's boss calls from home saying his flight status has been revoked. The s.o.b. told his boss at the Richmond base that my husband tried to do a Vertical descent. Which is pure bullshit. No helo pilot will ever do that. It's suicide. The guy doesn't fly around mountains in bad weather, or around hidden power lines. He flies in Richmond where it's flat and he can see city lights to fly. And he says military pilots can't fly worth a shit. Okay.. try taking control of a helicopter as well as not getting your ass shot at, as well as manning loaded guns and making sure your crew doesn't crash. Try landing on an aircraft carrier or a missle cruiser while the ship is moving. It takes skill and precision. This s.o.b. has only 500 hours of flying in helo. I tell you what if he was in the military as a pilot, his ass would be on the sidelines. And he'd never fly in his military career. Most pilots in this division who screw up pretty much go back to being a road trooper with less pay. So he had to do an eval with one of the Lt's at night last Friday. The Lt. said there was nothing wrong with his flying. The guy was running his mouth is what he was doing. He doesn't have any idea of the consequences of this outcome. Only getting others in trouble. He doesn't realize my husband has a family to take care of. He doesn't realize it not only hurts him but his famiily and his unit. His unit is undermanned right now because one pilot has gone to Iraq, one has gone to the New Mexico border, and one has gone to the state police academy. So instead of three pilots, there are now two. The guy needs his ass kicked. Do you think so??? So now hubby sits all day doing nothing when he could be flying missions and building more flight time. In the meantime the jackass gets to fly there.

The "ass kicking" will result in nothing positive, which I'm sure you know, and were just likely venting.
If I were him, I'd go to my Captain, or LTC (or whatever appropriate Unit or Troop Commander) and say I'd like to be judged on my own merits as observed by a commanding officer, vs. being scrutinized based on 3rd party, anecdotal reports from a "peer". I assume your Hubby (yes, I'm saying it too) is the same rank as this other flight ops guy?
I work with the FHP, and this sort of thing is pretty common - but usually there are a few folks in Command, that see through the ass-smooching this other guy is doing, and it just takes the right tactical moves to bring some heat on someone like that.
Good luck, law enforcement organizations have some tricky dynamics (as I've witnessed first hand).

Utah.. okay.. no more "HUBBY" ; ) DT.. yeah.. the shit is going to hit the fan. I can smell it coming. What comes around goes around.. Karma is a bitch. He's going to recommend to the Lt if it comes down to it to have this guy come out here and fly around in the mountains for a while. Now he can see how rough you have to fly around here. It's not easy flying between two mountains or in a ravine. It's rough terrain out here.
Ex-military helo pilots are insanely good!
I work with some folks at a trauma department (with air services), and a couple of the pilots have a good bit of combat experience - they can drop a helo down between two power lines in the middle of a backwoods two lane road with like 2 feet of clearance!

The guy has only gotten his flying instruction through the VSP. And I think a local flight school. He really shouldn't talk crap. Would love to see his ass in combat. Yeah.. My significant other says they have landed on top of a plateau out here a while a go.. just to take a piss. That's too funny. Still, no word on his flight status. He can fly but not just in this unit. The guy that revoked his license is retiring in February so he could care less. Stupid to really have only two pilots flying on missions and med flights. Stupid idea to revoke his license too. Especially now. The head honcho had the one below him come and do an eval. Nothing wrong with his flying. So there are two conflicts here. Which one are you going to believe? Obviously not the guy who's running his mouth. I saw his photo in the yearbook and he looks like a brown nose ass kisser. I'm sure he was a jerk on the road to motorists.
