Default A shuvit , A move that is fundamental in skimboarding and extra

do you guys think a shuvit is necessary to learn in skimboarding? I just recovered from a serious injury that was cause by me try to do a 360 shuv off of a wave and now, When i try always bail because im scared of re-injuring myself. Though when i watch pros skim it seems the shuv is a necessary move to learn. Do you guys think it is worth relearning though I think I am to much of a pansy to do it anyway haha. Has anyone ever one a skim comp without doing shuv-its .

On a side note we should put on a skimboard channel on Justin.tv! skimboarding 24/7

i would relearn them. its going to seem scary and might take a while depending on how hard you want to push yourself to learn them again. i had a similar experience on a skateboard when learning kickflips. the board popped up and hit me in the lip and i needed 7 stitches, for a while i was afraid to do them but i just kept pushing myself and really focused on what i did wrong so it wouldn't happen again.
if you're cool with me I'm cool with you. if u don't like me...idc, I'm just gonna keep skimming

Shuv-it's are not that important. Unless you're doing one over the lip not in the flats. Try learning some solid airs, frontside & backside. Try connecting several maneuvers on the same wave

shuvits are just something extra, they are not the basis of simboarding

If you got hurt really bad doing them I would say don't.....because if it happens again you could be out of skimming forever. Now if you're going to be in comps then it looks like you need to do them to win. The bottom line it's really up to you....it's your life.
Now on the other hand long ago I was dropping into a 12' 1/2 pipe and didn't make it, I don't remember what happen because I was knocked out for a few, when I woke-up I ran back up to the top and drop in again (this time I made it). I knew if I didn't try it asap I would never do it again. My friend that was skating with me got so mad at me he went home.=(

everyone falls. practice is what makes you better. i think it was grady said it best in a skim mag interview about eight years back..it went something like if you dont get hurt in a sesh, youre not pushing yourself hard enough.

If you go to re-learn them with a thought in your head that you will get hurt or with any hesitation, I feel you will have a lot more of a chance of hurting yourself once again. I think its a mindset game. Clear it out, have a short memory. (Although easier said than done)

Quite possibly the stupidest thing ever said in the history of sports. Injury should not be part of your plan and will only hinder your progress. Taking a year to recover from broken leg or torn muscle/tendon possibly without a full recovery ever will not improve your game. Self control and pacing will keep you in the game for life.

meh i see the point tho... i try and push myself as hard as i can, usually it ends up with me skimming too long and being too tired to function.

if youre taking it easy staying within your comfort zone, youre not getting better/progressing.

When I get so tired and start falling I just stop and call it a day before I get hurt. Because I know if I get hurt I'll be not skimming for awhile and that sucks.

every skim sesh should leave you sore, bruised and scratched, etc, or you didn't try that hard. that doesn't mean a sprained ankle should be your goal.

it doesn't take a genius to figure out the difference.

far stupider things have been said in sports, just watch any allen iverson postgame interview.

Who cares? Skimming is about having a good time and doing something you enjoy. If you enjoy it better when not getting hurt, then that's the way to go. Not everyone is trying to progress every time they go out.

This reminds me of the scene in Liar Liar: Max - "My teacher says beauty is on the inside"
Jim Carry - "That's just something ugly people say to make themselves feel better."

First of all i quoted someone..you must have noticed that part. go tell grady archbold that, one of the most progressive riders in the world and who created a large part of the style you new kids skim with today.

then again..he was probably before your time..

His slam into the rock at the start of Stimulus confirmed him in the legendary category for me.
Just got up and got on with it - Paulo looked more concerned than Grady did
