Default 2012 End of Summer Skim Comp

Here is a video from the 2012 End of Summer Skim Comp in Madeira Beach. The "waves" (using that term loosely) were small, even for the gulf. Never the less it was still a fun time with everyone coming out and supporting skimboarding on the gulf. Thanks to Overhead Surf Shop for putting on a cool event and to everyone who skimmed and came out!

Good skimming for how bad it was, kind of looks like lake skimming.

Whole lot of poops & cool azz rail grabs.
Gotta wonder is it the lighter boards made with better materials or is it the riders are getting better??

Think it's down to the selfless people who stand on the beach filming for little or no compensation. There's just so much quality skim media these days that people have access to footage of top class action and get ideas from that. "skim with people better than you" has now become "watch people better than you". I tip my hat to all those willing to hold a camera whilst the skim is pumping!!!

All these Florida skimmers are getting so clean and consistent on their tech that it's ridiculous. Danny Montrone who has a bunch of clips in this as well as Garrett Wolff are two Florida Am's who are some of the most consistent and solid skimmers I've seen. I think the progression in skimboarding is similar to the progression that's happened and is still happening in skateboarding. It's the coupling of technical advances in the equipment and the flood of media serving as inspiration and showing the possibilities to any young rider in the world, like tmac said, that are responsible for this awesome momentum. Although I have never received a penny of financial compensation from anything skimboarding related, my reward is the stoke I get knowing that people out here can get hyped to skim by watching an edit that I made. A problem that I feel gulf skimmers and Florida skimboarders as a whole face is that watching a video like Bearded, although it is insanely awesome, doesn't get you hyped to skim ankle biters. When I skateboarded a lot, I liked to watch the videos that featured more technical ledge skating than large handrails because that's what I liked to skate and that's what inspired me to ride. If I can provide the Florida kids with media that shows talented riders making the most out of these conditions than I did my part to help foster this sport that I love so much in the area where I'm from (although I would love to and plan on shooting out west at some point when I can afford to make a trip) and ensure the progression will continue. The only reason I film anything non skimboarding related is to be able to film skimboarding. It is the only reason why I own a camera or work with video at all. Stoked on filming some amazing talent at Typhoon Lagoon on Thursday and Vilano next weekend!!!!

SOMBA award post. Mr Peluso, this man should be helped out please, my god can't you just taste the enthusiasm!
I know that here in Italy the kids prefer to watch vids like this with just pure tech since the waves suck most of the time.
    Slightly different market, same boards.

Great job my friend. I'd say keep up the good work but it hardly seems like work to you. See ya' at the beach.
