Default I want to practice more.

    Hey all,
I'm super new to skimming and just got a victoria foamie. Just got to ride it today and I'm pretty happy with it but, I've been skimming at a still water pond mostly and I think I want to get a more flatland style or at least a wooden board soon (2-3 months). I really want to focus on run drop slide and i'm leery of trying it on a slip & slide or other alternatives like I see all over you tube with my foamie. I'm concerned about breaking it and/but I really want to practice as much as possible. Can anyone advise or advise against using my foamie in that way? I know not to try riding any rails with it but is there any other do's and don'ts anyone could share?

Also, I'm wondering if anyone has any dry land practice tips? Like good ways to practice run drop slide without water. Would it be bad for the board to try it on grass? I see vids of people skimming wet grass but they always seem to be wood boards (DB and Vic Matrix mostly). Or maybe lay out a bunch of towels or sleeping bags? Just ways to practice without a real water source.

I really want to practice as much as possible. I've been doing tons of research and all but at the end of the day there is no substitute for experience.

nothing bad will happen to your board by skimming it on grass/slip and slide.. just make sure there are no rocks or hard objects anywhere around you that your board can run into..if you want to practice on dry land, try running and dropping on carpet..works pretty well, thats how I learned the one step drop

Dish soap on a flat lawn works perfectly. Great for executing flatland manuevers and also a good alternative to an expensive slip and slide.

thanks for the tips. lol on the dish soap. I can make a generic slip and slide. Im not going out and getting the Whammo that's for sure. Plastic tarps work well. We used to use them as s&s all the time when I was growing up.

As far as grass goes, How wet are we talking? I imagine partialy flooded would be best but what's the cut off? When if ever is it too dry? I'm sure it's better wet but what ill effects would be caused by dry grass? Not dried out but just good ole green grass. I have a nice lush field out my back door and across the street. 90 second walk. It would be awesome if I could practice my RDS and maybe suvits and ollies there instead of having to drive to the pond.

    Thanks again.

It's too dry when the board stops and you chew grass. When it rains hard around here we practice in the ditch. If you can find a nice grassy ditch that holds water it makes for some decent fun.

I think that field floods good when it rains enough. I havent really looked but i seem to recall seeing it flooded before. It's rained a little today and supposed to tomorrow so I'm gonna check it out after work then. Thanks
