    Default Recommended C++ learning tools

    Have always wanted to learn a C based language and think I'll start with C++. Any good recommendations on the below:

    Books
    Tutorials
    Compilers
    Debuggers
    Any other good tools/resources.

    I've dug around a bit online but SOMB usually gives some answers not found elsewhere.

    edit: have both osx or windows 7. would prefer to not to use something like ubuntu yet.

    I used codeblocks and some random compiler when I learned. I've also used visual studios, but students at my school get if for free. Codeblocks is great because it's free for anyone. As far as learning materials there are some solid forums out there, and I had a book I really like, but I can't remember what it is. Ill post it when I get back to LA.

    Lynda.com has some great tutorials. It does cost money but you can usually torrent the classes.
