    No discussion necessary, Beaker.

that title should come with a certain amount of modesty... something beaker doesn't exactly have when it comes to describing his talents

If you had to name one I would probably say Chris Henderson...but you can't forget about that whole generation like Tom Trager, Conley Ware, and a bunch of others I'm sure that I'm forgetting. Those guys where just the first to pop in my head...Bill will go down as a legend for sure for how he progressed the sport but the guys above were pretty much the ones who really started it all.

Bill Bryan would have to be at the top of the list. I saw him shredding it up back in 1996 or 1997 at Villano in a skim competition. He was at a whole different level.

Skateboarding today is so diverse that there is no godfather to it. I would say though that the segments of skating have primary influences, like street skating would be the Gonz, and that vert is obviously Tony Hawk, and that downhill bombing maybe someone like Fred Gall.

Thats what im saying!, I don't know about you guys but I don't know what Bill Bryan has done for the sport (you can probably tell me something he's done) except pushing the limits on what can be done and being the first big name, but Tex started Vic which is big since they produce most of the boards we all started on ( and the Smetts!), and Jim Gordon has always been The Godfather of SOMB and would give out his wise knowledge and advice! I also picture him as Splinter like his avatar.....end rant

What do you mean by the godfather? the riders or the people who make the sport grow?

if its Riding for sure is Beaker..he won 14X wcs i think and still got it.. but there are other factors so important as riding.

"Tony Hawk said, Bill Bryan is the best Board Rider ever", he can rider anything...in any stance..

for a tecnical analysis he is almost unbeatable, i dont see anyone being a most complete rider than him..

When I first started to jump into the sport beyond sandsliding on a bullet at the age of 9 or however old I was, 2 names were inescapable as I mucked about on the internet in what I could find of the skim world: Bill Bryan and Tex Haines. From what I could tell at the time, Bill seemed to be the current juggernaut, the untouchable dominant force atop the pro skim world. Tex seemed to be the guy I would most closely term "the godfather", like he was 10 years older Bill. It sounded like he was the pioneer of modern skim.
All messed up and slightly twisted.
Am I sick or am I gifted?

I think I would have to vote for Tex too. He got me to start making foam skims when I was only making wood. Also I learned the BFF when he came up to our contest (santa cruz) in the mid 80's. Also, most of you don't know this, he also started the first skimboard mag.

edit, I LOL about how you picture me as Splinter (I was born the year of the rat though). =]

Anyone who doesn't know that Chris Henderson is the godfather of skimming needs to hand in their skimboard and go get back on a boogie where they belong. Thats HENDE....! Perhaps you have heard of him.
