I don't know about "most people," but if you were skimming aggressively and putting my family in danger even after I had warned you, I would give you an ass whooping you never dreamed of, and I would enjoy doing it. And face it, the vast majority of skimmers aren't very intimidating. Skimmers are at fault just as often as the clueless tourists who set up camp where you're skimming. I have seen it with my own eyes all too often, usually it's some kid that thinks he's entitled to skim wherever he wants. If you were a kid I would "confiscate" your skim. Sure you could "confiscate" (suspicious quotes you used) my skim and revoke my privilege to be in your area of the beach, you're a family man. But could you really give me an ass whooping i've never dreamed of? It is one of my most common dreams, and unfortunately for you it often takes place on the beach in similar circumstances to those you described. Typically I'll be skimming on a beach with a slightly chilly breeze. I'm approached by a slightly chubby brah, I'd guess to be about 170 lbs. He pulls out 200-400 dollars from his fanny pack and offers it to me for my board, his breath lingers. "No," I say, covering my nose. "That's okay, I really only wanted your board for speed on liners anyway, I really like liners," he sighs, putting one arm around my waist and using the other to press one finger against my lips. "Do you see that family right there, kid? That's my family, don't put my family in danger," he whispers in my ear. This usually is scary enough to startle me awake, but sometimes my dream self can't help but skim aggressively towards the slightly fat family. When this happens all hell breaks loose in such a way that only can happen in dreams (or in real life, if this had been your family).

gentlemen, the real issue with the subject of this thread, is the bum skimmers. when im taking a stroll on the beach, im my size medium, fitted billabong shorts, smelling of moroccan tanning oil, looking for some swell skim, and you seem some sweet betty's!...but then you're approached by the bum skimmer. who is wearing nike basketball shorts, has a board with missing chunks, smells of weed and vomit, and tells how he doesnt remember how he got to the beach. then asks if you wanna drink. ruins your day way more than someone snaking your run. just my opinion.

idk how it is everywhere else but in nj and on lbi there are seperate flagged off sections for swimmers (within the flags) and everywhere else in between in for either surfing skimming or fishing. you dont have many days where your bothered by swimmers but when the when the lifeguards get lazy. and anyone thats is just playing on the shore i just ignore and if they say something you just tell them to go to the swimming spot and they usually never start fights or cops. but i fracking hate fishermen especially the ones the dont even cast out past the breakers and are wasting there own time and possibly hooking me.
