this is just stupid. the contest is run by victoria. the judges selected by victoria. the winner chosen by those judges. results tabulated by victoria.

the filmer/editor was someone who victoria hired in the past to make a victoria dvd and someone who has personally put together some sick morgan just skim segments in the past.

I know you like Morgan after he came to visit... but dont be silly.

you doesnt have to be there to know that a guy who "almost" win the constest needs to show up more than this, but this just is one case. it used to happen with beaker.

you said the contest was made by vic. i was talking about the video and the ust. its cristal clear what is happening. just look a this video and watch the only brand who appear on it.

i dont want to everytime i came here and say anything from exile we get trouble, so im just gonna stop talking about. if you like to respond this ok. but this is my final comment in this topic.

you did great for the sport! a few can say the same. its not personal try to realize that.

So your contention is that the video camera operated by the victoria skimboards employee paints an accurate representation of the event and the UST video made by someone not employed by any skimboard company is biased? And your evidence is that they dont match?

listen, neither video is accurate cause there is only one camera in a single location and waves get missed no matter what. the fact that you are even trying to argue what was accurate and what was not at a contest you didnt even attend is stupid. I thought that would be the pinnacle of the silliness, but then I read the rest of your post....

Unfortunately for your argument, I know how to count. So yes, I will have to correct you because you are wrong.

Here is the actual wave count in the video for the top 8:

As you can see, your "count" was "slightly off".

Interestingly Travis who neither made the semis nor rides for exile tied blair for the most waves in the video (7). That must be another part of my grand scheme right?

Or maybe just maybe there were some good shots of Travis and Scott was just trying to make the best video possible......?


Still not convinced? I just happen to have the full text of me hiring Scott to make his first ever UST video. Here it is word for word off my phone:

Me -> Scott: You gonna be around this weekend?
Scott: Yeah, whats up
Me: Wondering if you were interested in doing the UST video for the vic contest (film and edit). Edit would need to be done within one week.
Scott: How much for the whole shabang
Me: $xxx.00 is the usual
Scott: Yeah, that sounds good. I'm in.
Me: Sick, you need any equipment?
Scott: I have your tripod and I could film with my 7d, so yeah
Me: You prefer your 7d? You are welcome to use my camera if you want. Whatever is easiest I suppose
Scott: Ok, your camera has zoom so that might be the best call
Me: Yeah, lets get that set up the night before
Scott: Ok

The only further communications I had with him were saying hi for 30 seconds when he came to pick up my camera, hassling him about the video being delivered on time after the event was over, and arranging for him to bring the finished video over so I could upload it.

I did not see any part of the video before it was done. This is the way it usually goes except that Derek and Matt usually upload directly to the youtube account. They also live on the other side of the country so me micro managing who they put in the videos is pretty much impossible.

The only thing I have ever said to any of them is to make the sickest video possible. Thats all I care about.

I talked to Velocity, they said they wanted to if they could and would think it over, but I get the impression that money is really tight. I believe I followed up some months later and never got a response. I didnt talk to Paul or Scott mostly cause I think I already know the answer. That is not to say that they arent welcome to sponsor at any time. Maui I didnt really think about. Again, I would be surprised if they were interested, but pleasantly surprised. I also talked to a couple other companies that declined.

Sponsorship of the UST is open. I havent yet heard of anyone besides Vic Exile and Zap who were willing to do it in the past 5 years (which has been rad). Unfortunately Exile was the only one willing to do it this year (that I know of).

Too bad! Great that exile keeps sponsoring the UST, you guys rip. Hope some other companies are interested in supporting the UST in the next contests even if they declined for the last ones.

questioned the song choice at first, but after viewing mulitple times, im starting to dig the vibe of the video

I think the fact that morgan got second place in the contest doesnt mean he should have got a bunch of clips in the UST video. There's only one guy filming for the video, sometimes more than one skimmer runs for a wave and you obviously can miss a good trick. More than that i think it has to do with the angle that most clips were shot ( left side of the beach), which isnt good for morgan's stance ( and the angle choice has to do with lightning, type of waves, stance of majority skimmers in the heat... ). Something that could possibly have happened too is that morgan got more good clips but the editor prefered to use other shots that fitted better with the song. I've done a few contest videos and this has happened sometimes... people placing well but not getting many good shots... i guess its pretty normal... it just happens and sometimes you cant find a reason for that. But i should agree with what rapzz said about Beaker. Yea I think there are a couple of contest videos that he won/ placed really well that there are just a few clips of him... that's weird but i guess it has to do with these things i said above.

I am sure it happened to every riding who has consistently done well in contests. I am not sure which videos you are talking about but Beaker has consistently done well in more contests than anyone. The chances of the filmer missing his clips in a few contests over the last 5.5 years is 100%.
