    Cool Technique to wrapping???

Hey guys so i have been skimming for about 5 years on and off in the summer because I lived 45 minutes away from a beach, but now I'm living in Santa Cruz and go about 3 or 4 times a week. I really want to get my wraps down. I think my timing is good, but when I'm about to hit the wave I seem to sink more often then not. Sometimes the board slides out form underneath my feet and shoots backwards while i fall forward or my legs get swept from underneath me and my legs bend backwards. My friend tells me I'm leaning too far back so i keep sinking? I've heard many tips like lean forward and let the wave carry you then bend your knees? and also to look at the shore when turning so it takes you that direction? It's really frustrating because I've been at the same level for a couple years now and I can't get my wrap down. I've only done it legitimately maybe 5 times?

Any advice will help and is very much appreciated! I'll try to get a video soon. Thanks!

When you get to the wave and it seems like you're going to be picked up by it, straighten your knees like you're standing up. This will make you push off the wave, and you should be able to ride it straight in. I've caught waves that I would never have imagined catching.

If you look at Brandon Sears' Pro Skimboarding Movie on YouTube. At 0:40, he's pretty much standing straight up on the wrap.

This is the technique that worked best for me. And yeah, make sure your weight is a little more forward.

The first thing is to make sure that you have enough speed to make the wrap. Without that, you'll never make it. That being said, if you hit the wave with enough speed, start to turn your head a couple of feet before the wave so that you are looking back down the wave, behind you so to speak. That will cause you to turn your shoulders, hips and then feet. Once that happens, you'll notice that your board will be sideways when it hits the wave which will use the waves energy to push you back towards the shore. From there, it's just a matter of where your aimed.

Remember to start your turn earlier than you think you should.

    Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the input guys! I'll definitely try to stand more straight rather than having my knees bent when I'm about to hit the wave. Just gotta keep working on it!
