The low tides aren't really low and the trough never really fills in because of that.

    where was everyone today?!?!?!?!?

aliso was CRACKING with a new 3-5ft south swell with some west in it, and it was good from low tide to when we had to split at 5pm...no trough, huge slope, the winds were light, and the water was warm and the sun was shining....i saw so many barrels spit today...swimmers right past the skim/swim sign were getting so very pounded by peeling drainpipes grinding right on shore and running past the creek

if the vic contest had been held today it would have been one of the best ever.

Come to Miami, you will never complain about waves ever again.
    You've got that nasty bounce.

i have a question for the advanced guys here...
what would you suggest to my son in order for him to bring that wrap around more successfully?

he seems to slow down a lot once he comes out of the glide, and his top turn bogs down his speed even more...any tips?

i would try running faster/more. he took a couple steps and went straight to a side slip. if he had more of a run, he would of easily had dat shit

if he didn't water drop he would've had that. from the looks of your vids, friday looked a lot better than yesterday, but it was still fun.

i think we hit it just right!
sorta looks tweaked/troughed and overcast today, and it was raining this morning so the creek is probably spewing, even yesterday TI looked brown from the current/swell sweeping creek runoff north, but the rising tide could still bring some rideable lumps-

matt t. showed up right before we left and even though the tide was pretty high he still pulled into some clean caves.

mentoneman, those waves looked sick. i wish i was there yesterday. skimmed today and it was alot more troughed. treasure island wasnt too bad. the bigger sets would break far enough off shore to miss the trough

i put those waves up on YT just for proof that i'm not lying...it was good fun!
my son and i were so stoked because we have been getting hosed so far this summer.

the one other day we had some decent conditions was a saturday a few weeks back and just when the sun came out and the waves got good the lifeguards blackballed TI, even though no one was swimming, then we moved south to what we call "afros" between the rocks and the creek, and the lifeguard b-balled us there too, and again there were no swimmers, then we went to the normal skim zone, and it was crap/trough and there were 50 kids in the zone and no lifeguards doing anything!! so mad...

but then the first day of the vic, we went to west and caught some fun siders with no one there, which was extra nice because we suck at siders, but didn't feel bad wasting waves cause no one else was there...and our luck has finally started to turn!

were you one of those 3 guys at the secondary/corner?

you guys were getting way more rides but me and my son were just as happy trying to milk the sider pulse for one or two links

nice shots/cam! i remember you shwacking some nice wrappies.

yesterday(Monday) was bumpy but pretty fun and sunny as the new swell rolled in. West was washy, TI was better lined up, and later Aliso got fun but the slope had a huge vertical berm on it near the rocks, and i bodysurfed some backwash out to sea yesterday. today looks even better as the swell fills in.

good time to take a high speed video cam as the tide comes up over the berm and catch unsuspecting people getting blasted.

years ago hende and i were skimming there when the berm was like that, and my young son was trying to scramble up the vertical wall when a huge wave shot him over the berm about 4 feet in the air, right between me and hende, and he landed with a wall of water on a lady siting on her chair under her umbrella. she barely had time to look up while reading her newspaper, to see my son yelling "look out" like a bug on flypaper, catapulting towards her on a wall of sand and foam! total carnage.

wish i had that kodak moment!
