obviously I made a blanket statement, and I was gonna say crusades but yeah we're talking modern world here. the christian religion exists mostly in the civilized western world now which is probably a big reason the violence caused by it has gone down.

also I've never read the Quran (sp?) but I've read that there's passages that encourage violence against non-muslims. of course people find all kinds of wacky meanings in the bible so I don't put much merit in that.

Just because most of their terror and killing hasn't happened recently doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I'm glad most Christians have moved beyond killing people if they don't convert to their way of thinking. We just need to get the rest of the religious nutballs to do the same.

Poking around there seems to be about 72 sects of Islam (http://www.alislam.org/library/links/73-09.html) and somewhere around 33,000+ denominations of Christans. Just because a few groups are radical terrorist it doesn't make the whole religion bad. Hell if you poke around enough you can find acts of Buddhist, Hindu, pagan and even atheist terrorism and persecution of others.

Yes, technically Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion but most people think of it as a religion. But that doesn't mean they haven't had terrorist groups doing crap in the name of Buddha. Most notably Anum Shinrikyo in Japan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Shinrikyo There are other examples like the Sinhala Buddhist groups in Sri Lanka. Some people even say the Dalai Lama and the high ranking monks lived like kings while the rest of Tibet worked like slaves before China took over. Most people just tend to believe the Dalai lama since he seems peaceful and is extremely intelligent and China is the big bad communists.

Then if you want to take some information from the bible Matthew 22:36-40 - 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." So based on that we should have no Christian terrorism or hatred right? So far the only religions or psuedo-religions I can find that don't have a history of terrorism are Humanism, Rastafarians and Pastafarians.

You will always have extremists as long there's something to be passionate about. The only thing religion gives is morals, ethics and a sense of community. I think the only one surviving these days for high profile Christians is a sense of community. The other two have been gone for at least 40 years.

if someone wants to send their kid to a religious, random, etc etc school on a voucher it shouldn't be a problem. i know several religious private schools here (and in many other places) have students of other religions attending them (ie muslims and jews at catholic school) b/c some of the public schools here aren't quite up to snuff (i personally was ok with public school but can definitely see why some people would feel that way), are going broke, etc.

no bailouts/handouts for anyone though if they can't make anything of themselves afterwards b/c they decided to learn w/e a random school teaches. oh wait, half of america lives off of bailouts and handouts. oops.

and yes, religion isn't the problem like some here are saying. its the stupid people... the same goes for almost anything.
