I would say it is pretty comparable to the gulf coast conditions in most situations except for when the gulf coast gets insane skim. Pure wind swell though.

Seems like theres enough swell up there but there isn't much slope and most of the wave breaks on the outside bar.

All taken on Michigan's west coast. Rider in the pictures is 6'6. Take into consideration.

Depending on the season and beach the slope on somedays isn't to bad. But your right the waves break a little far out on most days.

I have skimmed both the gulf and lake Michigan a lot and one thing the gulf has over lake Michigan is its ability to get deep right off shore. Lake Michigan normally doesn't drop off waist to chest deep right off shore.

I skim Lake Ontario and the best time to skim is the Winter! In the summer its rare for good waves but, if its storming then its good. During the Winter all you need is a 3/4mm wetsuit and booties. In the winter everyday there is at least some kind of wave. The lakes are better than nothing but, they break far out.

I skim on Lake Ontario, and I found one beach thats really good and drops of quickly... the waves can get amazing...

Best conditions is after the wind dyes down and calms down the waves still are big on the lake and it gets perfect...

    Heres some pics...

Its Marie Curtis beach in Mississauga... The only issue with this beach is though it can get pretty junky compared to the cleaner beaches like Kew beach and (the cove) up by the bluffs...

There are a couple spots, you just have to find them, and there usually junkier beaches. I found one on Lake Ontario and its really good
