Default please help with my timing

Hey guys im an average skimboarder but i need some help getting on the waves, namely my timing is crap. i 1 foot bff and i have a zap large pro. i know how to pump and side slip but i dont usually side slip cause its way too choppy here at emerald isle. my problem is i have no idea when to go.(btw its super choppy and like wave after wave its never calm at all.) when should i start my run. and what should i look for when picking my wave/next run

sounds like your waves are really closely spaced together. it really depends on how fast you run and get to the wave. i personally like to get to the wave as early as i can and drop right into it. whereas others will go when the wave is at a more 'steep' slope.

i would say to go as early as you can, you will miss the wave a few times trying this, but then you can start to narrow it down to know whats to late and whats to early. i hope i answered your question and i hope u understood what i said haha.

yeah they are really close. i tried that but its too deep for me to water drop right in front of the wave cause the wave before it is still like a foot of white wash. but if i try to drop on the sand i hit to many tiny waves and white wash to get to the wave and if i get there its already crashed sorry for bitching lol. anything i can do? and when should i start running.

hahaha don't worry about complaining. sounds like you got some tough conditions though. the only thing i could think of is either try to bff right into a side slip or learn how to pump like sammy haha.

also if the beach is reaaaaally flat the waves might just not be reachable, thats really what it sounds like. if thats the case try other beaches in NC

timing is by far one of the hardest things, and i know this is probably and answer that you dont want to hear, but just keep skimming and you will figure it out. also, if there are other people on the beach skimming that are better than you, watch them and see when they go. keep practicing!

oh ok i think i know how it looks now. since you're saying its hard to reach i would say start running for the wave you want as soon as possible so you don't miss it.

probably virginia beach. come skim with me and we'll figure this timing shit out together i'm still trying to force myself out of the habit of hesitating and ending up late.

hit and miss. great days, choppy days, and lake days. i was at emerald isle for a little less than a week a few years ago, and from what i remember VB is in general a bit better. certainly better than the only other place i've skimmed somewhat frequently which would be ocean isle beach.

ive come to the conclusion that this beach is unskimable during high tide. if anybody wants to know where it is so they can try let me know. and theres no waves during low tide its only good in between

Now this is what I like about skimming over surfing........everyone wants to help him and even wants to skim with him. I don't think you'll ever see that in surfing, not where I'm from anyway. =(

Yes, that's why I skim more than surf and also skaters are like skimmer too. The trouble with surfing is.....there are too many surfers and not enough waves.

feel ya on that. i hate just sitting out there waiting for my turn in a line up especially since I'm not a great surfer the better guys usually get the good waves. skimming is cool cause u really don't have to be stuck to one spot (for the most part) like surfing by a jetty or something.
