Question losing speed on water drops

when ever i do water drops i lose so much speed compared to dropping in the sand and transferring to the water. the problem is alot of days you have to drop into the water where i live (delray beach, FL). so how can i not lose speed and drop effectively??? btw i go back foot first

I've found the best way to minimize this is to put your back foot a little farther up towards the middle, when you step on be conscious not to stomp down like you can when wetsand dropping. You have to lower your center of gravity relative to a normal drop in a water drop to keep your velocity constant at initiation. Once you are planing out you can make your adjustments. If you can go straight into a side slip this makes the footing change less problematic but try that with the thought of lowering your center of gravity. See what those thoughts do for ya

also i would say drop it and get on when the water is coming towards you NOT going back out to the ocean. this will help you plane over the surface faster and naturally keep you afloat. you can't always do that because of the time in between sets of waves but if you can if will make a whorl of a difference.

Yeah, like they said above.^ Don't step on the tail in deep water. Step toward the middle more and I would stay there until you get to the wave and then step back on to the tail and get ready to turn. And going when the water is coming in too, will give your board more lift.
