Default Skimboard noob from long island...

Hey guys, I just pulled the trigger and bought a Victoria Big Foot today, it should be here by next week. I'm originally from Suffolk Long Island, but am currently living in Astoria, Queens. I'm new to skimming, but I am a long time snowboarder, so playing around in the flat water is going to bore me pretty quick. I would like to get out in the waves as soon as possible, I'm just wondering where some of you go on the island or around the area. I am also wondering about trackpads, are they really necessary or will wax be fine (like surf boards)? Any tips or advise would be appreciated...I'm sure you'll be seeing me post here a lot so see yah around...

Some like traction pads and some don't.....they are not necessary. But if you want to get some grip pads don't wait until after you wax it, because it's hard to get all of the wax off. And if you don't......the traction pads will fall off fast.

Eh, I'll try without the pads and see how it goes.

You'll most likely want a stomp pad, the arch bar is less necessary... I mean neither of them are actually necessary but in my opinion, both help you control/grip your board.

The stomp pad makes sense to me, but I'll see how I do with the wax first. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't needed to rip some waves.
