When actually making the transition between water and sand lean back a little. If you arent going that far it means you arent running fast enough or you are leaning too far back in the water. Try to keep the bottom of the board flat on the water

try side slipping or pumping to make it to the wave. once you get to the wave bend your knees and push off the wave to use its energy to get back up the beach. best i can say it!

Ok, I just got this to work for me, and it feels awesome. When you get to the wave, literally just stand up as you're turning. Unconsciously, you push off the wave like jrizz said, and then you ride it back in. I had trouble with this for the longest time, until I watched a few videos, and it just made sense.
