Yes, I am playing this like a motherfracker.

Still in Alpha so it's pretty buggy and the devs change it all the time but still fun as all hell.
    Really taxes your graphics card.

Right now I'm on my best life so far. Hatchet, Knife, Matches, 2 AKs with 5 clips, Chech pack, plenty of beans/water, Revolver with 6 clips, blood bag, and all the medical shit I will need for a while.

Still have yet to find a fracking tent though, ever.

They just updated it yesterday and now apparently the zombies are harder but you can lose them though LOS and now when you die you start with wayyy less gear and no gun or food so it is going to be really hard for new players to get into the game.

    Tips-
Read an FAQ before playing or you will be completely lost.
Try to find daytime server to start out, many servers are daytime at night because most people hate nighttime (it can be pitch black at times), usually a daytime server at night will have lots of players so just look for those servers.
Never run near zombies unless they are already chasing you, they don't run inside buildings so that is a good way to lose them or line them up at the door and shoot them. Otherwise crouch walk or crawl near them.
Other players are dangerous, trust them at your own risk (I'd recommend a shoot first policy).
Use this map to navigate http://dayzmap.info/ It's really easy to get lost in the woods even with a map. Cherno and Elektro are the most dangerous areas (big cities with lots of loot close to where most players spawn = bloodbath). Stary Sobor is a big PK spots but has good loot in military tents on east side of town (often patrolled by snipers), the Northwest airfield baracks are by far the best places to get weapons (some military weapons only spawn there) but obviously expect to see some action there, helicopter crash sites give OP loot but are rare and random.
IMO Berezino is probably the best/safest place to get good loot starting out. Lots of high loot buildings close together (Apartments + Grocery store and military tents all near each other on west side of town, apartments on north side of town).
Deer stands are by far the safest place to get loot. AKs can spawn here and they are all in the woods with only 2 zombies guarding them, but they can be tedious to find if you have trouble navigating the map.

Yeah if you hang out along coast expect to get killed A LOT. All the noobs congregate there and Cherno/Elektro are the killing fields full of zombies, noobs looking for gear, and PKers.

I usually go to Cherno/Elektro if I spawn close and try to get some gear since I have nothing to lose if I die, may have to change that plan now that you don't spawn with a gun as it's sure to be more dangerous. Going straight to Berezino seems legit. I have been spending a lot of time there lately and the military tents and apartments are so cash, haven't seen any players so far but I'm sure more will catch on as time goes on. Probably the safest bet is looting deer stands but now that you spawn with no gun it's a lot riskier since all of a sudden the 2 zombies are a much bigger threat.

Apparently the new patch is making all the servers blow up. When I get some more free time I'm down to form a SOMB posse, but that will probably be early July. Right now I don't have too much free time and will just play in between having to see to other shit and this game requires a redic amount of time to accomplish anything in a group. Would be nice to get a working car and do some team raids on the NW airfield though.

bf1942 and cs1.6 were the end of my pc gaming days. this is too cool doh

with the popularity of the zombie stuff in the media, I can't believe a fallout style first person RPG zombie game hasn't come out on console yet

pretty beastwar. this is a game where you will barely squeeze out 30 fps with a decent rig. i average 25-30 playing this, but get 50-60 fps on bf3. it's just a terribly optimized game that will rape your processor. the game is really slow paced though, so the lower frames are bearable. you can download the arma 2 demo on steam for free to see how you run it

Probably the best week to take a break anyways I haven't gotten a chance to play but apparently it's a total shit storm with super zombies and no guns on spawn.

Apparently you can't crouch run anywhere without aggroing zombies even inside, which sounds lame. I'm not about to crawl all over the map like and asshole, don't have time for that bullshit. Hopefully they will sort it out in the mean time.

Yeah I am kind of over this version. Not into belly crawling for an 1 hour to only find empty cans and flares, only to die from zombies because I have to stand up for 1 sec to get up a stair.

is ammo so scarce that you can't just shoot any zombies you come across? are others in the area attracted to sounds of gunshots?

Rocket just posted the pending changes for the next hotfix

    Current Changelog for 1.7.1.5
    * [NEW] Infected raycast for line-of-sight less often (improves performance)
    * [FIXED] Infected can see through terrain ( https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33787 )
    * [FIXED] Raycasting being taken from wrong body position (ensured it is from eye level)
    * [FIXED] Infected sometimes spawn close to a player (previous check once, now up to ten times)
    * [NEW] Infected bodies will despawn after x minute(s) of their death (improves performance)
    * [FIXED] Sometimes infected will stand still after loosing line-of-sight ( https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33715 )
    * [FIXED] Can dupe tent's by right clicking (forgot to close the window)
    * [FIXED] Poor performance caused by infected search behavior (MAJOR performance increase during closed testing)
    * [FIXED] Audibility is far to high (completely rebalanced, in line with how it was in previous updates)
    * [FIXED] Can dupe food during cooking if click really fast (now you cannot)
    * [FIXED] Hatchet takes up too much room (can now be transferred between toolbelt and primary slot through gear action)
    * [NEW] Flashlights can now be packed to toolbelt also (gear action)
    * [NEW] New players will spawn with flashlight added to their toolbelt not backpack
    * [FIXED] Infected sometimes not inspecting thrown items (they will walk to the location of a noise, 20-40m away)
    * [FIXED] Unlimited Infected spawning (now has a cooldown enabled so it won't spawn too many at once)

So apparently LOS and hearing was just seriously bugged and this was not how the patch was supposed to play. Sounds like this hotfix will be much better.

Yes shooting attracts others in the area. Every gun has different volume. Ammo is scarce for rare guns but there is a bug in the ARMA 2 engine (which is not meant for long term persistent gameplay) so if you log out and log back in it refills any partial ammo clips you have, so if you intentionally use this cheat you can pretty much have infinite ammo (god I wish they would fix infinite ammo already).

yeah you pretty much want to avoid killing zombies unless you have a plan. Better to move around them. It's also sketchy to fire shots as it alerts players who will kill you to steal your shit (bandits) to your position. Therefore the gun becomes a tool you use when you really need to use it, like IRL. Ammo is also limited. The most pistol magazines I've had at a single time was prob 4 magazines of 8 bullets, but then again I don't get very deep into a character because I keep dying after a few hours.

That is really cool though... one thing I loved about Fallout 3 was how necessary it was to really pay attention to your ammo at all times, use the right weapons at the right times, and repair them when necessary.

Sounds like they need to do something to nerf the looters in this mod

Like I said it's important to remember how early they are in the development phase. There are many holes in the game that need to be worked out. Logout + login = full refill on all partially empty clips. People who just exit game quickly before they die if you shoot them. People who go to the barracks and just log into a whole bunch of servers with no one on them and continually loot the airfield for godlike weapons. There are dupes (a lot of these have gotten patched recently though so I expect they will be the first to go).

You have to build them. Same goes for cars, you have to find parts to make them run better. There are bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and different choppers
