Snapped my shit up playing rugby. Meniscus as well. Apparently my meniscus is so bad they might just take it all out and I'ma have mad arthritis when I'm old. Pretty bummed. No sport for like a year.

That sucks, my brother did that to both knees, one of them twice, playing hockey. They repaired the meniscus the first time, but then cut it out the second time and was back in about five weeks, but that was no ACL that time.
Where do you play rugby?

I feel for you man. I had a bad hyper extension back in November that lead to a broken patella and a 50 percent tear in my ACL. I didn't have to have surgery but I was in a full leg brace for two months. Currently it still bothers me everyday and I am going back to my doctor on the 15th of this month to get another MRI, I think other parts of my knee have degraded due to the weak ACL.
Best of luck with the surgery and a speedy recovery!
I'm here for a good time, not a long time.
Yea dude that sucks I tore my meniscus in football in November. Ibgot it repaired but it took me about 6 mOnths to hear. From what I learned if u get the meniscus taken out u can walk out of the hospital fine but like you said you have a good chance of getting arthritis when your older. I have never torn my acl but it usually takes About a year to finally play sports
I saw that on FB and forgot to comment. That sucks man, hurry up and heal.
fuuuuuuuuuu sorry to hear that man
I just came off a pretty bad ankle sprain (not the same at all I know) but I swam a lot, and that really helped keep me in shape while I had to stay off my foot. Once your knee can handle it, you might want to look into swimming. If you don't want to do the kick motion, you can use a pull buoy and just swim using your arms. Just a thought. Good luck with the recovery
how the frack do you swim with a sprained ankle?
I play at University of South Carolina. Asked all the boys if they would be interested with me helping out coaching instead of playing this year and everyone seemed like they wanted me out to help out so I'm still going to be involved with the club.
Yeah they are going to try to repair the meniscus if they can, but it looks like it may be trashed completely. Definitely not looking forward to the total knee replacements I will need when I'm old.
Funny you should say that, I've been swimming a few times since I found out that it was my ACl for sure. I'm trying to kick as much as I can without pain so that I can keep my legs strong before surgery. Once I have surgery I might not be able to swim for a while, couple weeks, but I plan on using that as my main way to stay fit. I lift weights regularly but tend to put on a little happy weight if I'm not running around too.
I'm just gonna try to stay positive and all this sympathy I've been getting from facebook and somb is actually comforting, as gay as that is. I was praying that it wasn't my ACL and it was really the worst case scenario for me. I know I'll be alright but its tough when a lot of my life revolves around sports and physical activity.

I blew my knee out wakeskating. Don't skimp on your rehab. Do everything they tell you to do, and then some.

From how shitty an ACL tear sounds, I think I'd rather break my leg again
I would aspire to be me if I wasn't already
I'm sorry to hear that. What rehab exercises do they have you doing? I've torn my meniscus twice now and each time my doctors just tell me to stop skimboarding, or, of I must, to warm up on a stationary bike.
And then?
Sucks bro. Be on a path of healing, that which you already are.
p.s.
I remember.![]()
And you'd be better off. Unfortunately I know how it feels. I'd rather break my leg three times than go through that again. I feel for you Lucky. Its bad enough as it is but it will prob haunt you for a long time. Ive destroyed my left knee twice. First time I hyper-extended it running through a patch of "quicksand" at full speed. Tore my ACL and MCL and fractured my patella (kneecap) and there is still a fragment of it floating under my kneecap. I was on crutches for 14 months and too much Rx dope than I care to think about. The second time it happened I swear on my life it felt like the closest thing to a living nightmare ever. I still made it down to the beach every week though both times. With StarkDog carrying me back up the stairs at deer creek a couple times lol. Idk what I wouldve done if I didnt have my buddies skimming with me. Pizza Man/Flip drove my car back with me the first time. I drank a 12 pack in the 20 min. it took to get home and get some Demerol in me. Its sooo miserable and im not one to bitch about injuries.
Best thing you can do besides what they recommend is to keep your head in the game as much as you can. Its almost as hard on your mind as it is on your body. Keep going to games/practices, the beach, whatever. Dont just stay inside. I say it will prob haunt you because I cant even jog more than a mile without it swelling up and it literally always hurts a little. Hope your case is better than mine was/is.
One thing that actually does help a lot during (if you arent in a brace) and after recovery and rehab, is a knee support/guard made by KneedIT. It has neoprene straps too and you can wear it in the water and you can run fast in it too.

I bought a couple of 'em and still have one in the box i never opened. If you want to try it, PM me your address and I'll ship it out to you.

you should be fine i tore my ACL and meniscus i got a scope for the meniscus and i still dont have an ACL but recovery time for that was like 4 weeks but youll be back at it soon enough
just take it easy when you come back
Whatever you do, don't take anyone's advice up here ^
Do the surgery, rest, do physical therapy, and you'll be better in 4-6 months. Don't use it early, and it will be (nearly) as good as new.
yeah i'm still going to the gym, trying to workout just the upper body and and stay trim with some low impact cardio.
I was looking up rehab protocols for both ACl and meniscus tears and honestly if they decide to repair my meniscus and not remove it, my rehab is looking a lot longer than just a plan ole ACL tear, which blows. Kinda want them to just yank it out (i know that's retarded in the long run but I'm young and I don't have the foresight to see to when I'm 50).
My dad doesn't have an ACL in one leg (never got it repaired because the surgery wasn't around when he did it) and doesn't have a meniscus in the other knee. He can barely run and can't do any high impact cardio, I don't want to end up like that when I'm his age.
Also, I'm on track to become a Physical Therapist so I'm the type to take that shit seriously and I know how big of a difference it can make. Thanks for all the advice though.
And honestly if you want to send me one of those brace things for free I'd love to have it down the road like 5 months from now haha.

Pick it apart however you want...I wasnt skimming, I was manning the camera for my friends. It was just good to be at the beach still. And it was good to have my buddies there with me...I couldnt drive home the first time and woulve layed in the sand for hours probably if I was alone. Ive never seen something swell up so fast. My knee balooned up in about 5 min.

Yeah dude...I'll ship it out to you this week...I was actually talking about using it after you're all healed up. I used it when skating, surfing, and skimming after and it surpised me how well it worked but you know if your in PT how much that support helps. I have a carbon fiber knee brace too but if you can do low impact cardio you prob dont need a full brace. Just shoot me your address.
