    Default Back Injury Rehab

A couple of months ago while planing out to a wave, I got a sharp pain in my lower back. It felt like someone had taken a vice and clamped it just above my tailbone. I had been out for a couple of hours, but quickly called it a day after that. As the day progressed things got worse. Within a couple of hours, I couldn't walk or hardly breathe. The muscles in my back were going crazy. After a few days of rest, things felt much better. Until last weekend. On the first wave of the session, as soon as I stepped on my board, it happened again. The pain was just as intense if not more. And the question of whether or not I'll be able to skim again seems just as painfull. I have an appointment with a chiropracter, but was just curious if this has happened to anyone else and what did they do to get back on the water...

If you're lucky it's just a pulled muscle, maybe the chiropractor can tell you if it is. That's what is sounds like to me.

go to a doctor not a chiropractor. chiropractor might just make it worse.

Back therapy is great, if you have the option to get some sessions do so. I got into a car accident and am currently attending therapy for my mid/lower back. It doesn't feel the same, nor do I expect it to be ever again. However it does feel significantly better since the accident. I hope you get taken care of, I know the feeling.

agreed...some chiros will xray to see whats wrong, then massage it out to see if tense...most likely just pulled...

It could be a muscle but your description makes me beleive it could be a pinched nerve. A pinched nerve can cause intense pain, simular to a syatica. For you sake I hope it isn't but a real doctor would be a good choice if it persists. Good luck.

it could be this thing called a spondylolisthesis. pretty long damn word but i have it too but not that severely so it only bothers me from excessive running or skimming. you definitely want to go see a doctor, i know that skimming more than 3 days in a row for me makes it hurt to the point where i almost cant bend over. if it hurts that bad after one session, you might have a more severe slip than i or most people that are asymptomatic have. your best bet is to get an x-ray, i know i thought mine was muscular until i finally got an x-ray on it, and then i was diagnosed and now just have to take mild pain medication every once in a while and get an x-ray every six months. good luck man
