    Default Northeast Skim Tour

    Hey SOMBS

We've got about one month until our series of contests kick off for the summer in Charlestown, RI on Saturday June 23 and we are getting stoked for it. For the first time in over a decade Charlestown has agreed to allow skimboarders to hold a competition on town beaches and we couldn't be happier
    See it all here NEskimtour.com

We have great support from Alley Oop and Jason and Exile Skimboards by way of Steve Taylor, both companies have really stepped up and got behind us so thanks to those guys. Along with local sponsors and a few other big names that we will release as the 23rd approaches
Frank from Skim Invasion helped us get our organization together over the last couple years so special thanks to him as well.

If you want to be involved you can PM me here, use the contact us button on the website or send an email to info@neskimtour.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can. In the meantime like the northeast skimboarding page on Facebook

Thank you and we hope to see you soon on the beaches

It is, unfortunately there was no avoiding a problematic scheduling conflict during the course of the series. This year Seabright was the unfortunate conflict

Registration is open, camps are locked and loaded, and there is a strong likelihood of Steve Taylor making an appearance for the finals. Nobody can turn down a day with Steve Taylor

Just under a week until our next event, this is the staple stop on our summer series we've been holding competitions at Whitecrest Beach in Wellfleet for 7 years. Anybody who is interested in seeing what we're all about should come on down and spend a day at the beach. This stop always gets intense.

Here is the little write-up for the Cape Cod event Saturday July 7th brought the second stop of the 2012 Northeast Skim Tour, we had been anxious to see how the famously shifty Cape Cod sandbars would treat the competition venue and our Friday evaluation showed a promising two part plan. The morning would feature a standard shorebreak section of the beach that would hold through mid-tide, once the tide filled in we moved south to a small point to work the liners on the incoming tide. This proved to be an excellent setup for our 32 competitors as we saw the field step up and push one another to their best.

Cape Cod featured a complete women’s field with 4 ladies making it out; Mackenzie-Kate Nagy came in 4th, Liz Blanchette in 3rd, Caitlin Crosby in 2nd, and Paige Lacey taking 1st place for the second straight event. The boy’s division featured 5 competitors a much welcomed look into the next wave of up and coming skimboarders. Jake Sacks made a strong showing in the first heat showing strong frontside and backside skimming but needed to leave early, this left a 4 person second heat for all the marbles. Michael Blanchette came in 4th, Lukey Miller came in 3rd, Michael Marinello toughed it out for 2nd, and Pat Lillis of Ocean Bluff MA showed his experience and took home 1st place.

Junior Men’s is always a proving ground and never fails to deliver close competition as skimboarders come into their element. This event was no exception. The Ocean Bluff crew out of Marshfield has been showing great growth and experience in the last few competitions and this final continues that trend with 3 of the 4 finalists being from that crew. In 4th place was Jamie Kelly, 3rd place was Andrew Spaulding, Ian Wright took his second straight 2nd place, and John MacMullen, the Cape Cod groomed local, had a dominant performance to take 1st place.

Finally came the Men’s division, with an excellent showing of 16 competitors. The men got going right off the bat and captivated the crowd until the last spray had settled. The changing conditions proved challenging to some however those who adapted made it through. Finishing in 4th place was local boy Aaron Barmmer, Danny Kilgore was just edged out to land in 3rd, Dan Mulley used speed and good form to make it into 2nd, and Sean Kenneally another Ocean Bluff member and former Jr. Men’s champ, stepped up with a little bit of everything to regain his top spot once again at Cape Cod.

We have our Hampton stop this weekend but here is the announcement for the finals

We wanted to let you all know the location for our Finals on August 4th and 5th will be held on Outer Beach (also known as North Beach) in Chatham!

We have arranged for the Beach Comber boat service to ferry us out to the beach (because it is an island) however if you have a boat you can meet us there, if you know someone who has a boat we will pay them to take competitors and spectators so let us know! Anyone who refers a friend with a boat safe enough to carry 10 people or more will get a cash bonus!

We have a chance at some serious liners, also sounds like we're going to have a decent tide window in terms of skimmable areas that develop through the various tides. We are set up to use the Beachcomber Boat service and are looking to get local people with boats involved to help decrease those costs. So if you have a boat and want to get involved we will pay you.

Worked out really well actually, got the "triangle" there at the north end of Ocean Drive in some pretty stellar conditions. I may be back up there this week when this swell fills in to catch some more!

Let's get some stoke goin for New England! The warm weather is really giving me the itch to skim again, and the Salisbury beach cam (surfside5.com) is showing some good potential early in the season. I know colter is working on things right now and I can't wait to see what he brings to the table this year. Yeeeeew!
