I hope that guy is not getting hit in the head with the tail.
I hope that guy is not getting hit in the head with the tail.
This guy's channel has the gnarliest battle footage btw.
e.g.
crazy battle footage? i see a bunch of guys shooting at mountains. seriously what the fruck kind of war are we fighting over there?
That's crazy. My buddy came back from Afghanistan with some gnarly photos/videos of fire fights, air strikes, and believe it or not some awesome scenery shots.
I'm here for a good time, not a long time.
you can clearly hear the snaps and ricochets of incoming fire in the video bart posted. and it's pretty tough to see the frackers that are 500+ meters away on gopro footage. watch restrepo or armadillo if you want to see how intense it gets over there
clip from armadillo
yeah i didn't mean to take away from how dangerous it is over there, i know it is, and i don't doubt the intensity. Shooting at enemies hiding in mountains just isn't how i picture what a war should be like, cant even imagine how absurdly frustrating it must be to fight that kind of war. But i think it's frucking retarded that brave men and women are fighting some retards that live in that kind of frucking mountain terrain, just seems pointless, frankly.
there aint no snow in afganiraq, its all desert
hows my posting?

Honestly, I've seen way crazier footage on youtube than they showed in Restrepo. Restrepo was a lot of dramatic editing, but overall the footage was fairly calm compared to lots of what's on youtube. I'll see if I can find this one video of Fallujah... it clearly shows a marine looking out a window and shooting an insurgent with his m4 from about 20 yards. Intense.
Bart it looks like the pilot of that chopper did an incredible job of holding things together.
Really? Seemed to me he crashed because he was flying like a jackass.
I'm assuming something was already wrong with the chopper, considering how he clipped that building. The force of that clip forced the chopper up, and it seems to me like he did a good job of keeping it level, instead of letting it plunge back down nose first like it was headed.
Yeah, guess it all depends. If he was show boating, he's an idiot. If the clip started with him already trying to save it from a mechanical or other issue, then he did a pretty bad ass job.
I can't tell if the guy under the tail tucked and rolled or got hit. He crossed his arms above his head and fell backwards, so I'm inclined to think he got smashed by the tail. If he didn'ts he's a lucky son of a bitch.

Live every week...like it's shark week.
NBD guy ruins a 20 million dollar helicopter... i fracking hate seeing people mess around in the war like the things they use don't cost anything.
Made you look
we have no context to know if he was messing around or if something was wrong with the chopper. top gun shit like tower flybys doesn't happen in the military. if you do it once, you lose your wings. I only know this because my dad was a naval pilot who stripped a few wings.
that was certainly a radical move to U turn like that after almost clipping a house...I'm sure this thread will provide more context in the next couple days... My guess is he was being an idiot.
Made you look
5:20+crazy battle footage? i see a bunch of guys shooting at mountains
Bullets landing pulp fiction style around this guy.
And then?
You guys have to remember that pilots are all officers, meaning they went to college and had extra training. It's not your average 18 y/o grunt flying that chopper, it's someone who has been highly trained and knows the severe consequences of dicking around with a chopper. I'm not saying he wasn't screwing around... it's very possible that he was. I just think it's more likely that something was actually wrong with the chopper. I'd like to hear more from a witness.
There's a good chance you've handled my ass-pennies. That gives me the edge.
Yes, but like I said before, the consequences for misuing aircraft are not as light as shown in the movie you just quoted. There's isn't some bald guy screaming "I WANT SOME BUTTS!"
No, you get your wings stripped, possibly discharged, and most definitely court martialed. Your average college educated and military trained pilot isn't stupid enough to purposely put themself in that situation. Of course, it happens. Maybe the guy flying that chopper really is a showboating idiot. There's no way to tell from that video.
Here's another incident chalked up to "showboating"
There's a good chance you've handled my ass-pennies. That gives me the edge.
So that's 2 incidents out of how many millions of military flights that have happened in modern times? I'm sure there's more, but there's no evidence to suggest this chopper pilot was going all Maverick and stuff
Two examples of reckless flying that had catastrophic results AND were caught on tape. The pilot of the B-52 had a history of "hot-dogging". Not trying to say its rampant - just saying it happens. Maybe more often than the avg. taxpayer cares to know.
There's a good chance you've handled my ass-pennies. That gives me the edge.
I agreed that it happens. All I'm saying is there's absolutely 0 evidence in that chopper vid suggesting the pilot was "hot-dogging".
besides the fact that he buzzed the building for no apparent reason and did a failed helicopter version of what I believe is called a "half cuban" in aerobatics.

If that was "hotdogging" than I have been involved in more than one case.
Oh so you do fraternity hazing re-enactments as well as WW2 pretend games?
lol @ the B52. What a chode
I would aspire to be me if I wasn't already
apparently stuff like this helps the gov spend $98B in a few weeks time...
also - wish i had that much $ to have ammo like that.
