Default wearing shoes while skim boarding?

What is the general consensus of wearing shoes while skim boarding?

I have no skin left on my big toes from my last beach outing and was wondering if wearing "skele-toes" would help. Other than looking like a complete moron wearing shoes at the beach, any down sides? Less grip, makes you slower, etc?

You don't "feel" your board as well. If you've ever worn booties you can tell the difference from just bare feet, and at least for me I definitely don't have as much finesse with the board when I'm wearing booties. I can imagine it being only worse with actual shoes/

I would rather not feel my board than feel every movement my feet make while on the sand. Might be a little kooky looking to wear skeletoes but at least your feet won't hurt as bad..I would definitely take booties over skeletoes if you have the choice though

Don't just get wet suit booties, you need surfing booties. Why......because they have traction on the bottom.

One of the guys I skim with has worn shoes for about 18 months now and swears by them. Just a cheap pair of normal shoes, nothing flash.

and I'm thinking just go for a full out athletic tape, hire a personal trainer to tape you up before every session.

Duct tape didn't work. It fell right off after 2-3 runs. Booties it is.

Super glue your feet but before it drys smash your foot in a pile of horse dung and you have the best thing you could ever need for getting waves on a skimboard.... Shit shoes work and no wax over sanding your rails till foam shows and same with leaving your wax to melt letting it dry and not rewaxing it and going to the beach rocking all that swaggered out steez

Not necessarily true for everyone. I thought that was going to be the case, but after trying them I found that not having my feet go numb FAR outweighed the awkwardness. And mine added a good bit of traction as a side benefit.

Helps you run faster too right? I assume metal cleats for soccer would be my best bet.

I wear shoes when I skim. It depends upon you on where you feel comfortable during skim boarding. Booties would be difficult for me.
