I've been facebook raging about this shit all morning. The IRS: Invisible Children's worst enemy since Joseph Kony.

i agree that supporting the group, "invisible children" rather than helping the actual children they support is not the best way to go about it. the first IC film released was incredible and the donations were used properly along with save darfur charities. IC is a commendable not-for-profit; even if their finances arent in order.

however, even though you may dislike how this is done, how trendy it has become, how its taking up your newsfeeds and timelines, this is a good cause. raising awareness of a situation that is so far removed from our lives is a good thing. seeing the world as it is (or, at least, was) for people that are not so lucky to live in free countries like america and canada brings out the heart and compassion in people. its something we all need to face at some point.

KONY 2012 is a gimicky thing, for sure. when p diddy gets involved, things are already going downhill IMO. if you can make donations, buy "action packs," or whatever, its a good thing to do. and a bill to try to stop the terror in developing countries is a good first step. for those saying that "it happens all over. its never changed..." it can change now. for those who are saying "we shouldnt be the world police anymore..." if we dont help those that cant help themselves, who will?

The point is, fixing Kony doesn't fix Africa. There are 1000 other evil guys who are ready and willing to take his place. And they will, because the broken system/lack of government/corruption/whatever in Uganda and most other African countries allow it to happen.

Kony isn't the only guy with a child army in Africa. Why am I supposed to care so much more about this one?

Cause it's on facebook! Doug is right though, after living there for a while, just about every leader at any level is looting whatever they can. They are so screwed.

All I know about Kony is every single girl on my facebook is suddenly an activist.
This. So many posts about how this is the most important thing they've ever posted and how everyone needs to take the time to watch it.
Seems kindof shady to me, and the part about buying posters/kits put me off completely. Why don't we just send in Angelina Jolie?
    And then?

yup. i guess he'd be one down but even so, it's basically a terrorist organization. no one is gonna care if you kill the guy in charge, they all operate by themselves anyway.

If there is something hipster about unironically defending the validity of discussing Justin Bieber, then I clearly do not know what "hipster" means anymore.
