Forum Software Upgrade

Just got "done" upgrading the forum software including implementing a new template.

I am still polishing some things up, but let me know anything you see that doesnt appear to be working properly and I will try and get it fixed.

primary reason is security and spam bot fighting. eventually there will be facebook integration though I have to figure that out. Also, possibly a mobile app at some point.

Are you talking about the dark blue links? Where is there light blue text?

Do you mean that you entered your log in information and you just hung there at the redirect page?

Yeah, it said something like "error with redirect: *SOMB url*". it logged me in but wouldn't allow me to go to the forum even if I clicked "forum". I got to the main page by clicking my username at the top


Also: comments now have an autosave feature? nice

When I go to all forums they are light blue and hard to read, but when I go to a thread the text is black.......much easier to read.

I find the thread links are harder to read. Maybe not enough contrast between text and background.

hmmm.... The thread links are the exact same color as they were before so I am not sure why it would be harder? Background colors look pretty much the same too...?

Maybe that's not it. But at first glance to the new look, it was slightly harder to read. Maybe I'm just not used to it, maybe lines of text are closer (vertically). Not sure, but I did see someone else say it was harder to read, and that was my first impression. Just in the fifteen minutes I've been on, I'm much more used to it, though.

Also, where's rep? No more private reps messages or can I just not find it yet?

upper right for pm and personal settings.

I saw that the old forum actually had a brighter blue on the main forum headers "Skimboarding Discussion" etc...

I changed to that to try it out. I dont think its easier to read but it is clearer that it is a link. Not sure if I like it though.

I think the main problem with clarity is the images that show when a thread has unread posts. The way it is right now is kinda retarded. Gonna work on that pretty soon here...

Old links were black, new ones are blue. That's the difference, that and there's much more text below thread titles now. It used to be just the author, now there's timestamp and all that jazz

possibly more style theme choices? the default/orangetheme are quite similar. how does the auto save text feature work?

steve, that version of the forum was from like 2006. Last version wasnt like that.

three suggestions:

1. would it be possible to use the old layout/template/looks with the new system while still preventing bots? i think that would be a good compromise.
2. when you click on the subforum you want and all the threads are listed, could the mail icons beside the titles be shrunk down a little bit? all of the spacing looks a bit odd.
3. maybe i made a mistake or w/e, but can you increase the auto-log off time? ie i am reading through a part of a thread and before i even get half way i notice that it has already automatically logged me out.

1. No, the old template doesnt work with the new software. Most of the changes are the new software, not the new template. The new template is in fact the new version of the old template.
2. Mail icons need some work. I agree...
3. I will look into this. I havent had that problem though and dont know of such a setting.

Penguin, did you click 'remember me' when you logged in? I think that should solve the problem. Otherwise I think you have 900 seconds per session. I cant really change that without screwing up the whos online thing....

yea the remember me thing fixes it, though i do find it odd that it just simply logs you out .

its like a session timeout with your bank... if you dont do anything for that time period it logs you out. or if you close the browser and come back... did it not used to be that way?

a) "Remember Me" didn't remember me.
b) Also, can't get into social group through bookmarks...probably related to (a).
c) Got same redirect error as Rex.

I have a bookmark set up for the forum home. When I first arrive to the page I'm not logged in, but after clicking on a Section or thread I'm magically logged in. I tried a new bookmark and cleared cache and still same bug. Oh well not a big deal just something I noticed.

word, i used that a lot. makes searching way easier, especially when trying to find things in the big threads (music ones, others).
