Domain Names

For my design class we are to buy a domain name

I was seeing if guys have any experience with .me extensions

or any other extensions you think are better. There's an 80's singer with the same name

as me so I can't just use my name with a dot com extension but I can with a dot me.

Any advice would be great

It depends on what you want to do with the domain after your class is done. .me is actually the code for Montenegro although it's open so anyone can get domains from there. If you want to use it for your personal site or portfolio it probably won't be indexed that much on the USA search engines. If you want to just let it lapse afterwards you just need to get a domain registrar and host that will handle the .me extension.

If you plan on keeping the domain I'd probably recommend something else like the .com, .net, .biz, maybe .name Maybe think of a good name for a freelance design or company you may want to do on the side eventually. Or just have fun and be creative. I have nathandotnet.net that I haven't done much with yet, but it's fun. I also like telling people that you can go to netdotnet.nathandotnet.net. It confuses the crap out of people when you say it fast.
