Default Why dont I like my exile board?

So i bought an exile hybrid carbon a while back and have used it alot now. What is it about the board that makes it different. I have a victoria plane wrap and love that board, It is actuallly to big for me but i really like it. My exile goes extremely fast but i just cant seem to stay in the wave,(like i just turn off the wave and cant really ride the wave) , but my plane wrap does not go as fast but it seems to stay afloat longer and it seems i can ride any wave with the plane wrape , Even the crappy gulf coast waves. I do have more "pop" with the exile though .My plane wrap is pretty beaten up and I might just buy myself a Maui skimboard. What is it that makes the exile so different , I like it but i just cant seem to ride it as easy as my plane wrap. does the rocker make that much of difference

It sounds like the Exile is just smaller than the Vic.

i had the same problem the first few weeks of having my exile hybrid after switching from a vic. it was just hard to get used to wrapping, so i know what you mean. but it's definitely better to stick with the exile hybrid because it's just an all around great board and it helps you with maintaining your speed in most situations, early wraps, far side slips, and mushy liners. the advantage of having a vic is that it is great for heavy right on shore closeouts.
but either way, just stick with a board that you seem will be the most fun for your personal riding style
it's not the board, it's the rider

Different shapes in boards means they ride different. You just have to get used to the new board and learn to ride it properly. You may end up preferring Vic to Exile in the long run, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the Exile. Everyone's different.

And Maui boards are built for heavy shorebreak, so that might not be the best board to get if you're on the gulf.

some boards will just work better for some people?

technically its not like either 1 is a bad product and imo buy whatever works best for you and forget what anyone else says or uses, victoria, exile, piece of plywood, w/e. certain boards will have certain strong points and all and you just have to find 1 that suits you.

If the waves are passing you after you turn, lean forward a little and you will go down the face of the wave.

i had the same problem when I got my first Exile 8 years ago, after switching from a vic. I started with a Small Hybrid 5/8", then went to a medium Pro 5/8", and now I have a large pro 3/4". I noticed the most improvement when switching to the thicker board (and I didn't find it very difficult adjusting to turning with the thicker board).

I think it's not so much the thickness, but you went from a medium to a large. It just has a lot more planing surface (planing surface=float).

just because you bought an exile doesnt mean its going to make you ride better withen a few weeks.

it takes years to master and understand what to do and when to do it.

keep at it and practice. an exile hybrid is a great all around board. if you are getting frustrated. its not the board im 100% sure of that.
