ok so i wanna get a fish shape but which tex haines, rocket fish, dude cruise, shortbus even or something else...and who makes the biggest one im large for skimming

I'm pretty sure shortbus can do anysize you want, but if not they have a 55" fish shape. I had a fish, and I'm getting another. Definitely my favorite shape.

When buying a fish shape, don't just look at the length for float.......You can have a long fish shape skim/surfboard but if it's narrow you'll have less planing surface of a short wider board. Look at the overall planing surface of the board, because that is what keeps you up the most. As far as I know......thickness only works when you're going slow not fast.

I'm not sure why they're so much more expensive than other board companies but I hear really really good things about Grapes. But good choice with getting a shortbus, I loved mine and am getting another one. Here's a link to their website:

I hear the tex haines is a really nice riding board. If you tend to ride chop, the rocketfish 1" will be perfect. If you mostly ride clean, heavy shorebreak, check out the slotstik wingfish.

i just got a slotstik wingfish and couldnt be happier with it. floats forever and turns on a time.

55" seems really big for a fish. you might want to go a couple inches shorter

55" is a bit big for a fish, I would go for a 54 or a 53.
If You wanna have a personal opinion about slotty's wingfish, You might wanna ask Derik Kent... He's a big dude too, and also rides for slotty.

I've never ridden a wingfish, shortbus, or tex haines fish, but the rocket fish is a hella fun board, the dude cruise is really versatile, totally lay back and yet really poppy.

I heard the dude cruise are reallly slow so i would go with the rocketfish or slotstick wingfish

Fishes are my favorite shape to skim. They are good for everything. You have a shorter board, with a swallow tail, so your board turns quicker. Also, since it's wider throughout the board, you have more surface area, and more surface area means more float. When your board has wings on the rails, it helps you stay locked in on waves, and makes your board faster. I <3 fish.

Also when we put wings on our pintails it made the board turn a lot quicker. Because the board thinks the wing is the end of the board, which makes it feel like it's a lot shorter.......did that make any sense?

yeah 210 isnt massive, it also depends on how adequate you are at skimboarding. If you are pretty good then chances are you could get away with a smaller size (i.e. large or cruise ship for exile) but if you are less experienced you will want to go a little bigger

i am not heavy or tall and have had many fun fish shaped boards.

rocker and length to match your weight is the key. placing your rear foot farther back sometimes is necessary due to a wider tail. you will find the right place very quickly.

a fish tail board with too narrow of a nose does not work very well. a blunt nose really helps with float in combination with the tail. blah blah blah......

enough rambling, the tex board is what i would recommend. it has evolved and been refined through many many(and i mean many) years of a rider closer to your body type than mine. not just a different shape from a line up. its functional for a reason.

Good point ^.........also I like to use a grip pad with a kick-tail to find the right spot for my back foot.
