Exclamation Which Board Should I Get?

    Hey,

I am just getting into wave riding and my previous thread, which most of you may have already read, tells a lot about what I am looking for. But, in-case you haven't read it, here is what I am looking for (sorry to sound repetitive).
    - I need something that will take me across the water with speed (I know speed resides in how fast you run but I need a board that can plane pretty far out).

-I am 100 pounds and 5 feet tall (I am not a midget, just young)

-And finally, I am looking for something that is less than 320 dollars.

I have experience with wave riding but the current board I own just does not carry me far enough. It is less than 1/2 an inch thick and just sinks after 2 seconds on the water (the water is deep where I am). I am in the OBX and I know the skim-boarding is great here, but I am not really in a skimboarding hot spot... so It isn't really that great. I also need a board that lasts. Well that is pretty much it, thanks for reading and I hope you all can help me out

I'm looking at it now. This board seems to be my number one choice right now.

OK, it not always the board. But the larger the board the more planing surface it has. Also, speed is everything but you said you already knew that. So the last thing that will even get your small board out there is......side-slipping. Just turn your board sideways and see how much farther out you can go. The reason this works so good is, the water is going across a flat surface and not a curved one. Much like throwing a flat rock across the water instead of a round one.

    @Jim Gordon

Thanks for your help. But, could you also give me a suggestion on a specific type of board I should get? Or are they all pretty much the same once you get into $300 boards?

I guess could it be compared to getting up on a wake board

This isn't going to help, but it's like which car is better. I love my Jeep, but you may like something else.

Haha, thanks. But could you at least steer me in a direction (don't mean to sound harsh)? Like, what the board specs should be? So far I have been looking at something like this:

3/4s Board, Medium/Small or just Small. The board I am looking at right now is an Exile Hybrid S/E-Glass 3/4 thick Board
Does this specific board have good reviews or shougld I be looking at something else? I need something that is going to last me for years to come because I do not want to be buying a new board every year because I have outgrown it.

Yeah that board sounds good, you might want to go a little bigger at first just to make it easier. Then after a year or so you might want to try something different. So keep that board in good shape so you can sell it for a good price. As a rule, it seems like people like to get a new board every year or so.

There are a trillion threads of this same topic.

Go back to skimboarding discussion and look at the top of the forum where it says "Which board to get and other frequently asked questions" and click on it.

Yah, I have looked at that. But, it did not really give me the information I was looking for. And yes, I am aware that this has been posted a trillion times but I doubt that there is a thread that was started by someone exactly like me w/ my certain specifications.

Thanks. Right now I am looking at this: http://www.skimshop.com/Slotstik_Pro...n-p-19343.html Do you think that this board will get the job done? It seems to be a VERY good board for a VERY low price. I was at the PIT and this board was being sold for full retail, which gives me reason to believe that this is a great deal, please correct me if I am wrong

just buy a board and start skimming. stop putting so much thought into what baord you are getting, chances are youll end up getting a new one once you progress to a higher level

Ok, thanks. I am going to print out that page and take it to The PIT and see if they can at least match the price of the board alone.

Just for fun.....I checked and it looks like Slot, Vic, Zap and Exile all make good boards for under $300.

Edit: I just did more checking and it seems like all the top brand companies now makes a good board for under $300.

Why not look into an Exile Recruit board?
