Ok, I bought my kid an 8GB iPOD a few weeks ago. He downloaded Limewire onto my computer and was downloading music into his Itunes Library and then dropping them into his iPOD.
Being the resonsible and forward thinking parent I am (in his eyes, I'm the SOB that is making his life pure hell), I uninstalled limewire and as many of the components I could find. Now he hates me, and is pleading his case to reinstall it so he can continue his illegal actions and get my ass sued. He is 18, but it's my computer and my internet connection. Does anybody here have any firsthand info I can bring to his attention, so I not only save myself some $$$ down the road, but he wises up, works the xtra hours to legally purchase his music and stays out of trouble?

just get pro. ive been using the regular limewire for years and ive never heard of anyone getting in trouble, never heard of any of my friends talking about any one getting busted either.

I remember one instance of some girl who like 10,000 songs, and they wanted to charge her like 3 million dollars, but she worked out something with whoever, dont remember if it was the FBI or what....

a woman in spain, got cleared. after being "sued" (dunno how to write it) for having over 50000 songs in her computer, but the judge said, that because she was only using them to listenm, and lend to her friends, and by that she wasn't getting any profit from it, that it was in no way illegal. so she got out clean!

There was a big scare about Kazaa a while back where something like thousands of usernames were being listed in a huge lawsuit, there was a site where you could check your username to see if you were listed. Anyway it got thrown out, something about how ISPs weren't within their rights to release info like that. I stopped using Kazaa at that point and switched to Limewire. I don't use LW anymore though because torrents are the heat.

open up a small port range (I use 59151-59159), set up your torrent client (Azureus, BitTornado, etc) to use those ports, and torrent away. There's ishloads of sites out there. www.thepiratebay.org and www.isohunt.com usually get me what I need.

basically it works like this, you download a torrent client (bittorrent, bitcomet, azureus, ect.) then you go to a website like torrentspy.com, you search for files on the website, then when you find what you're looking for you download a very small file, that is called a torrent, the torrent opens up into your client and from there it starts downloading

the way the file transfer system works is that you upload while you download, it's basically just a big group of people who are all downloading and uploading to eachother at the same time, and however many "seeders," which are people that have finished downloading but are still uploading, so the more seeders a file has, the faster you will be able to download it, unless there's also a lot of "leechers," which are people that are uploading and downloading

i recommend soulseek too though, there's a couple of mac versions that let you get on the soulseek network, one of them is solarseek, i'm not sure how any of the others work, basically bittorrent is faster on average, but doesn't usually have as much of a selection as soulseek, another plus for bittorrent though is that while soulseek lets you download an entire album at a time, bittorrent will let you download an artist's ENTIRE collection even faster

the easiest way to figure it out is to read up on them in wikipedia, a lot of people give wikipedia shit for being an encyclopedia written by its users, but it's perfect for this type of shit

are you using the original bittorrent client?

if so, get rid of it, i recommend bitcomet, but almost any torrent client is faster and more reliable then the original bittorrent client

I use uTorrent and it works really well for me. the site where I get my torrents is www.mininova.org it is really well organized, I prefer it over other sites such as thepiratebay.org

bt.etree is torrent, archive is just straight downloading. For many bands, you're better off getting their live shit anyway.
