On other forums that I am a part of they have 50 - 75 post requirement before you can post a thread, do we have that here on the SOMBs? I apologize if I did not do sufficient research before making this thread

Ok explain to me why it is better to have newbies come on and post threads and have everybody and their brother shit on them and give them hell? And I mean this as a point of discussion not an argument so again I apologize if this comes off combative, but I feel like having a requirement for members to spend time reading through the forums and covering the FAQs by investigation would be better than the alternative. But, please give me a reasonable explanation of why it is better as is.

maybe someone who is not a current member has a question and wants an answer? I have registered on numerous forums just to ask a question and have almost always received a very helpful response, unlike the drones on here who always scream "search button!!!!"

this isnt an Auto forum where most questions are pretty specific as to make, model, year, type of body, type of engine, etc
alot of noobies first thread are definetely search-able. maybe a 10-20 post restriction would force new members to read a couple threads through and theyd see the answers right there
At least a popup that says "Have you tried searching?" when they click to make a thread
Your authority is not recognized in Fort Kickass
Or have them go through a cagefight with a caffeine deprived ZBR. If they live, they are free to make threads
Or just answer the question...
Just for the record I posted this originally not because I don't want to answer questions but because I felt that a decent number of SOMBers enjoy dishing out crap when new members post threads, Its by no means the majority of members but I feel like it might help those new members if they private message and search threads before posting their own. That's all

yeah I feel like that is an example of how it can be problematic

Maybe a 5-10 restriction but make a sticky Ask A Question thread
