Accomplished my goal today. Biked 160 km with my friend. I am exhausted, but very pleased. It was a bit scary at times with cars and trucks flying by you at 100km. The funny part is that I did it on a bike that I've only had for 2 days, and also with no real long distance biking experience. Victory beers are in order.

Good luck with all your goals everyone, keep focused!

My dream is still to get on a fire department out here in Southern California. My Dad is on LAFD so it's basically been my job of choice my entire life. Buuuuut California is broke as shit and there is very little hiring going on so my odds don't look to great.

And that is why I am still in school lol.

How old are you? Things might pick up before you reach the age limit. FDNY is a hell of a shot considering all the diversity problems they're having. Plus, I'm out of state and not a veteran (+10 point combined). Pretty much have to score a 100 to even have a shot

I just turned 22 so I have plenty of time for everything to turn around. LAFD is on a hiring freeze right now, they actually cancelled a drill tower after choosing the academy candidates. A few smaller departments are hiring medics, which I'm not. Before I really worry about anything I am going to finish college (3 semesters left).

What kinda sucks is I know I will end up with a higher paying job if I stay in my field of study but I'm taking a risk of not 100% loving it.

I'm in accounting. Sounds horrible I know but very few people actually know what it involves let along where it can bring you in the business world. After I graduate a college degree will make my resume more attractive to the fire department anyways so I guess I haven't lost yet lol.

Yea at least youre not one of those fools going for a degree in Fire Science or something irrelevant outside of the fire field. You have something to fall back on

Yeah, I actually went to a community college on the side for a year and took quite a few fire science classes and got my EMT. I definitely want a back up plan, so we'll see what happens.

    Best of luck to you!

is there reasonable access to waves in the area where jefferson is? by reasonable I mean a relatively cheap form of public transportation + not too far... not that I will have time to skim often but it would be nice to still have some resemblance of home.

aw, so he is applying right now rather? (2011-2012 cycle?) beastly sum of cash so far.

~$1500 primary (added 10 more schools, so I am up to 41)
~$2300 secondaries (so far) still have about ~$1000 left to pay
Plane ticket for Philadelphia? couple hundred prob.
Will probably crash at my friends house who is moving to jefferson mid august for pharmacy school (best timing ever).

well i started this goal before i saw this thread but my goal was to go from 200 lbs to 190, get my six pack back, and be able to deadlift 405lbs. I've been working on this for the last 71 days out of my 90 days and i weigh 193, i have a visible pack, and i have been able to do a 1 rep max of 405.
