Caught some fire this afternoon but not before encountering the first localism douche ever.

I skipped the last two days, sorry but I'm not paddling out by myself in 1/4 mile paddle out through 7ft garbage insiders, the beach I go to has no jettys, so its just open ocean with a huge fracking sweep and a death inside section that never sets up when it gets big, but today was 3-4ft clean lining lefts out here, basically my favorite type of wave

I happen to sponge alot more than I surf, so i get down to the beach and drive on with my jeep because the usual two spots I surf aren't working, but I know this spot down further driving on is always working, its like this 500 ft long stretch of beach where the sand always piles up there so even on 2 ft its fun. I see some other guy sitting in the surf pretty much where I always go, so i figure ah what the hell this guy really won't care.

So I suit up, throw my fins on and start the paddle out, I duck dive under a wave and come up and the guy is right next to me starting to paddle out too his response was

"dude what the frack the entire beach is breaking and you needed to come here?"

Awe struck by the balls of this guy I say "sorry dude" and keep paddling

"no not sorry dude, what the frack man you don't do that shit, theres not enough waves for all these people"

At this point I'm starting to laugh and look around and see that there's 1 other guy paddling out... so what does this douchebag do? Starts bullshitting with the other guy who paddled in after I did. I almost had to say something but i figured it really wasn't worth it seeing as this guys obviously such a pussy that he'll only selectivley say shit to certain people.

To give alittle context, I've been at this spot more often than not, 3 out of 4 times I surf/bodyboard I go to this spot because I know it's always working and I literally have never seen this guy here once...ever...in the 7+ year's I've been doing this sport. Keep in mind this isn't some well kept secret, any idiot driving down just needs to look up and see its one of two spots that has the sand buildup consistently that it provides good surf and anyone who's surfed the beach knows this spot, its not Montauk or Longbeach or Lido.

So I basically had some random asshole try and tell me that apparently there's not enough waves on planet earth right now to fulfill his need for 3-4 ft decent waves. In the end, the guy ended up leaving 20 minutes before I did without ever having to give up a single ride to anyone else there or getting dropped in on, in total there was 4 of us including him and me. Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever had happen to me and was laughably stupid that this guy really got bent out of shape especially trying to tell me off when I've never seen this guy a single time ever anywhere on the beach I surf at.

A wannabe local trying to tell a local off for crashing on "his" spot that everybody knows about even though everyones a local because the furthest town from the beach is an extra 10 minutes away. Suhweeeeeeeeeeet.

Atleast, the worst part is this guy fracking parked a 1/4 mile away from the spot and walked on, meaning he didn't even know about the spot and stumbled upon it by accident, he parked on the other side of the dunes (which is against dem regulationz) and walked over the dunes which is a douche thing in the first place.... Half way considered running him over for being such an ignorant asshole. But its all good, he wasn't even that good at surfing and I guess he just found out someone else was blowing out his wife or something

yeah I think they realize how lucky they were to get it on a cane swell... and even then it was only really good for 1 day. and guys were still complaining on that one good day that it was "a thin little wave, doesn't have much power behind it" - parko

might as well keep the NY contest as a good memory and not sour it with inevitable shitty waves

elsewise it turns into the zap pro-am annual in panama city beach, fl.

where you have the gosh damned sea screamer tour boat going back and forth 50 yards off the beach for someone to skim some waves.

leash recommendations? I broke my standard FCS piece of shit last night... the ankle swivel broke on a chest high closeout wtf. the weird thing is I've gone over the falls on overhead hurricane surf with my FCS comp leash... and it was just fine.

I heard the XM comp lite is good. does it really matter anymore, are they all the same?

While I know this will probably turn in to a stupid argument I have to disagree, the waves the first two days really sucked but after that it was fire and I never heard parko say anything like that or atleast that I can find (not saying he didnt) The swell around here in NY is pretty consistent this time of year, but I have no idea how the waves in Longbeach ride, I'm an hour east of there.

I can see your point about not wanting to run it again so it stays as something awesome, but I just don't agree at all, the bad days were no worse than the shitty days anywhere else on any other part of the tour, except maybe Fiji and Teahupoo because even at 3 ft tall those spots are fire.

I hate to say it, but the guy is right. Those waves are nicely formed but they lack power. To me and you (east coasters) they are fire, but they pale in comparison to the more exotic spots like Cloudbreak, Chopes, and Pipe. They even aren't that great compared to an average day at trestles or the stops in OZ. The EC is just no place for an ASP world tour contest unless you happen to get it on a perfect hurricane swell or a nice NEster in the winter.

The tour in general is moving towards more highly populated spots with worse waves. Rio is a joke, I mean come on. They have two stops in Europe now, Hossegor always fires but I'm skeptical about Portugal.

Yeah I know what your saying, I think he was talking about that day specifically, the last two days were pretty solid, but in comparison to the other stops your right that it really doesn't compare in terms the actual shape of the wave itself and the ride.

I love my OAM leash, so comfy and it can definitely take a beating. Also the color schemes are pretty tight.

I just got my wisdom teeth out yesterday so I've basically been sitting on my computer watching surf videos for the past 24 hours, and I've come to the conclusion that this video is my favorite surf video on youtube. Dane's airs at 40 seconds and around 1:10 are just unreal... I could watch him surf for days
