yeah I've seen it. I don't put much merit in the experimental boards that kelly rides. he's gone through diamond tails, blunt noses, etc etc. he just loves to tinker with merrick. the point is he rips on them all because he's kelly, none of it really makes that big of a difference.
Speaking of fin setups, i've seen some with fins like fish have, 1 small one in front of a larger one so the little one in the front creates a vortex or something. supposedly it makes the board a lot faster.
frack the northeast right now.

Just picked up 6'6" blank, cloth, and resin for the new board. Starting the build w/ my buddy in less than a week. Pics to come.

I have a three fin, but I think thats a pretty beginner status thing.
so i found the shape i want on craigslist, and it's a good price, but there's some huge pressure ding towards the nose. the guy says it doesn't take in water, but i was wondering how easily these larger dings can break open... he sent me a picture and it is large in diameter and pretty deep, but he says it's not debilitating and it doesn't look that way. i'm just wondering about how long this board will last me. it's a newer board if that matters, only been surfed 10 times or so.
help me out, i'm going to pick it up tomorrow if nobody dissuades me

Pressure dings are no big deal. If they get pushed even further in they can start to spider, but they won't crack much easier than the rest of the board.
Well what I mean to ask is will this pressure dent break open easier... Not just from sitting there, like spidering, but if I hit it... is it more fragile than the rest of the board. Is that what you're saying WSMassiv? That it's just a little more fragile than the rest of the board? Because this is a big ding.

^the answer is yes
also, why dont you just post the picture that the dude sent you here?
in whatever ASP event is on right now, kelly slater changed boards and the announcer said to him "so kelly, your board is now and inch shorter and you changed fins, whats up with that?" slater responds with "my board was too long and didn't have enough fins.".
Damn, because I really want this board. It's super cheap, a shape I like, and otherwise, in great condition. I would post the picture but it's in a text. I think I might still get the board. I'll post up some pictures when I pick it up if it hasn't sold already

I also have 3 fins but am also a beginner.....pretty pumped I caught a 2 footer my first time![]()

im okay im thinking of getting a fish or short board, ill be surfing mostly in santa cruz 26 st and half moon bay.
NH has been huge the last three days, double overhead yesterday but it won't clean up. It's basically just making the drop, hitting a bump on the face and 30 seconds of 40 degree washing machine hell. So fun but not really.

I want to get a twin fin fish, i'm like 5'5" and 120lbs or so, i'll be 20 in two weeks. What should i look for, like 5'7" or around there?
I just got a 5'0 twin fish and I'm 6' 160lbs. You can truly ride anything if you get used to it. There's no definite best choice when it comes to choosing boards, just like in skimboards. It's all about preference. But unless you're looking for a longboard I'd say 5'7 should be your max. Usually fishies are a little thicker
Aaron Kaplan
dude youre really small and skinny, 5.7 fish would be pretty big for you after youre on it for awhile...how well can you surf
Following xleoyangx's question, I'm also thinking about buying a fish/hybrid fish or something versatile for both santa cruz & newport conditions. I've only surfed a few times (or attempted to surf) on little ass shortboards which was super frustrating, so I'm looking for something I can learn on and continue to have fun with without buying a soft top or longboard I'll have to replace eventually. I'm 6', 175 lbs, grew up snowboarding and have been skimming off and on for about 6 years if that makes any diff on my learning curve...any suggestions guys?

4 finned modern fish, 6'-6'6", 2.5 inches think and about 20inch wide. thats pretty good for all conditions, and good for people who know a couple board sports.

sick, thanks man. any recommendations on shapers/manufacturers for a modern fish to look for? i'll most likely buy used

yeah i know, i might be 5'6" i haven't checked in awhile... kidding aside, i can surf. I can catch waves and ride them. I figured i might even go shorter than 5'7" cause i think i'd like the feel of a small board. then again i ride a 53" apex to skim with so who knows right? although being so light a skimboard isn't hard to control. My brother (identical twin) has a 6'6" 3 fin thats pretty thick, i'd say the shape is a thruster, but it's wider and thicker than a normal one. Pretty old school shaped really, whole board is really round, rails, nose, diamond tail. But aside from going straight and making long turns, it's pretty hard to move around. i figure a short fish would be way easier. I've been riding a thruster thats a bit talle than me and it's fine. but a little more volume would help since jersey waves are usually weak.
i tred to get some high end board short at a place near me that was having a sale, none in my size, not even new ones. smallest they make is a 28 and thats what i'd get.

you can't go wrong with a webber or a CI. perfect construction, legendary shapers. isle wing I couldn't comment on.
without your dims and the board dims it's hard to make a reccommendation
