Here's a good buy on some retro fish surfboards I just found. http://www.solanasurfboards.com/retr...urfboards.html

    Fish Surfboard Buyers Guide

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fish surfboards are one of the most versatile surfboards made. There are a few types of fish surfboards that we will discuss in this surfboard buyers guide. The most popular type of fish is the Retro Fish or Twin Fin Fish. This surfboard is shaped with a wide nose and tail, maintaining a lot of width and thickness throughout the whole surfboard. Because it has a wide outline the retro fish surfboard has a lot of foam volume and floatation. The best thing about this surfboard is that it paddles and catches waves like a longboard, but it surfs like a shortboard. The retro fish also only has two fins, making it very loose when doing turns. This is also why it is referred to as a Twin Fin surfboard. The retro fish or twin fin is a great surfboard for small to medium size surf.

those are pretty sweet, except they run large. 6'0-6'6 retro fish might as well be a longboard float wise.

Yeah, if you're good or small they might be big. I like to ride a fish that's around the same size as me, 6'.
When it's crowed I like to have the advantage. Now if you're riding shore break, you can ride a lot smaller board.

Went to Globe Year 0000 premiere last night, it was pretty sick. The movie was sick and there were some sweet sections. My only qualms is that it was aerial fest 2011, not that airs aren't cool, but I like to see some turns going on and maybe have it look like the person is enjoying what they're surfing instead of instantly thinking: "I'm going to boost this section so gnarly" when they get up.

read the new surfer magazine about airs killing traditional power surfing. Pretty cool. Ultimately I think there should be a combination, but I think judges should stop giving 10s and 9s out to kids doing air reverses.

it's funny because they used to score head dips barrels higher than reverses

Here's something to think about, a thick board is good for paddling and catching waves, be when you're on the wave a thin board performs better. It's like a double edge sword, if you get what I'm saying.

Airs on a surfboard is nothing new, I remember back in the late 70's guys were getting air at contest. So I don't see anything wrong with getting points for doing them.

but back in the 70's judges usually would score a wave higher if the surfer did power hacks and strong carves than a one-hand grab. Now all you see are guys pumping down the line, waiting for the wave to break and then go for big airs. There are still some power surfers like mick fanning and kelly, but if you look at the youth, like kolohe, chippa, dane, and marzo, they're all progressing aerial surfing.

I don't see much wrong with aerial surfing, it takes skill and they're crowd pleasers, but I just get tired of watching all these surfer pump down the line rather than making sexy carves.

Interesting you say something like that, i was reading someone talking about the same thing the other day. I would rather watch someone with a powerful style, getting the most out of a section rather than powering through it to get a semi-sketch air. It gets old, in my opinion. I like watching older guys rip with style over newer guys airing. That's just me, though.

Real sick Marzo video, I've never seen it before. Saw Lost Atlas tonight too, another sick video that's filled with a ton of airs haha. Cool video though. We're finally getting swell here so I'm real stoked to start surfing again, and then I'm going to the South Pacific on tuesday for 2 months so I can't wait to surf my ass of over there.

Iv'e never been a fan of layback snaps. I always felt like they were a cop-out, especially since the first few I ever did were accidents and the ones that I recovered it wasn't due to skill, it was due to the wave holding me up until I could get the board back under my feet. I remember when they started to become really prevalent in videos and it looked so sloppy, guys would just go up and throw their board out from their back foot as much as possible. It looked like shit to me. I much prefer a really hard snap, a tailslide, or a fins out snap where you stay over your board, takes more balance and skill.
