Havent surfed in nearly 7 years and want to get back into it cause skim sucks here. I rode my friends shortboard but sucked ass on it so Im probably going back to a funshape. Ive been browsing cragislist and found this
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...480079410.html
good deal? its wide and thick and the board looks like its in pretty good shape
Here's something more to think about when getting a new board. You have heard me say that skimboards don't float out to the waves, well on the other hand a surfboard (does) use float to catch a wave. That's the reason for them being thick, and it does make it stronger too. Don't forget......I have made hundreds of surfboards, so I do know a little about them.
Because you are going slow, you're not planing yet, that's why on a short board when not moving only the tip of the board is sticking up out of the water. But as you start to paddle, the board starts to lift and as soon as you're on the wave you're planing.......not floating anymore. So the bottom line is, thick boards are good for paddling and thin boards are better for riding. I know you don't believe me, but someday you will.![]()

The thing that's good about being short is.........you can ride the shit out of smaller waves (because you're on a shorter board). Which most of the time the waves are not over-head........like most of us would like to think.
