Default Drop Step - Bad Habits

Hey guys, just was curios if anyone else has the same problems I do. I am goofy but am way more comfortable dropping the board with my right hand on the tail which is the opposite of how I should be. It makes me end up taking like one step over the board and then step onto the board. Its an outrageous habit but I am still able to go pretty fast. I am now working on getting the regular drop step down but still seem to stutter step quite often. Any suggestions?

Paulo Prietto drops the same way that you do and he's one of the best skimboarders in the world. To be honest, I think that weird little things like that actually increase your style and make you more unique. Whatever drop that works seems like a good drop to me If you want to change it though you can, as it could cause some problems while trying to better your drop.

Over the past week I have just overcome this problem. I am also goofy and right handed. I learned to skimboard by dropping it with my right hand. Over the past three sessions I have gotten one hell of a lot better just because I got the no step BFF down. It has helped me drastically and I am glad I switched. Just start out slow and work your way up on speed! Good luck

Tons of people drop this way actually. If you do a search there are a bunch of threads about BFF vs FFF and this comes up a lot. I'm left dominant for the most part, but throw right handed, so I have the same issue. I don't think there's really any reason to change as long as your comfortable with it.

Instead of going out and surfing around low tide I decided just to skim and work on it. I actually got it down very good. I am having diffculties waterdropping it but for the most part I got it down. I am getting more speed drop stepping at half speed then I would with a full blown sprint the other way. It makes it way easier to skim with a strained hip flexor.

Unfortunately, I drop the same way you do. I've tried to change but it is very difficult to do after skimboarding a certain way for 20 years! If you're young enough and determined enough to change you drop I would do it! Only because they way you and I currently drop will really hinder your frontside abilities. Goodluck man!

OG, I noticed the difference in frontside after learning how to drop step yesterday. The difference is amazing.

when i started i dropped the same way you did. I thought it felt right for me to do it that way, but shortly after i ended up trying to change and i just keep at it and now it feels better with my left hand on the tail. For me, now it just seems less complicated to not have to shift your body over the board. It doesnt make it right or wrong to do it that way, just whatever feels right for you.

I find confidence in your drop helps, i'm BFF and water dropping isn't difficult for me. When i doubt myself i usually stutter or stumble. Just practice, practice, practice until you are comfortable with however you drop.

Zeus, I skim Barnegat Light but I live in beach haven so I skim there pretty often as well.

And yeah, I just learned drop steps the other day so hopefully I can pick up waterdrops pretty quickly. I find myself jumping onto the board and losing my speed when I waterdrop but I guess it just takes practice.

I love it when it's just me and a friend, all alone. Skimming in the nude is the best.

Nice zeus its pretty fun there and usually not overcrowded. I dont drive yet so usually someone comes and picks me up and me and my friends head down there, usually like 5 of us. You can get some long liners on a good day there.

Random ass question and i don't want to make ANOTHER new thread and become as annoying as "floridaskimmer" so i'll just ask right now. Are there heavier pro skimmers? I feel as though all the professionals are using MS, M, ML boards. How heavy and tall is morgan just?
