My next door neighbor is a researcher for UC Davis and she had planned to go to Japan soon for work and to visit friends. Well her friend's house and everything in it was destroyed by the tsunami so she has invited them to come here and live with her till things get sorted out.
She has asked my daughter to be a 'big buddy' to the couple's 4 year old girl who apparently totally freaked out. It should work out great cause we saved a ton of her old clothes, toys, etc since we thought we would have more kids. That means the 4 year old will have a fully stocked closet, toys, bike etc when she gets here. The father studied over here and I think the little girl knows at least some english which will be helpful.
I can't imagine losing everything like that, feels good to help at least on a small scale.
