If your board is textures you only need a bit of wax IMO. Textured boards seem grippy enough already, at least Exile

Is it worth the extra $30 for a tail pad or should i just use wax?

i prefer a tail pad because the kick tail makes it easier on me and gives me extra leverage to control the board. id say yes it is, but its really up to how you prefer to ride.

Yes I agree ^ and what I like about a tail pad is.......when I get on the board my back foot is never far enough back, so I need to slide it back until I feel the kick tail (if I didn't have a kick tail my foot would most likely slide off the tail).

I use this. http://www.preline.co.uk/3m-safety-walk.html $75 for a roll that will do about 6 or 7 boards. Put on an arch bar, tail pad & cut this stuff up & spread it out where you'd normally put whacks.

That's it........^ Magnets, put some in your booties and cover the top of your board with a thin piece of steel.
