    Default Beginner Tips

Just moved to a place that looks to be flatland. I want to ride waves but those are on beaches further away. Is flatland a good place for basics? What all can I work on and how do you begin working on different tricks? I'm just looking to get started now that I have moved from the mountains. Anything would be great!

get a crappy foam board, and learn how to 1 step bff (getting on the board with in one step of you dropping the board and getting on with your backfoot and then your front foot)

then just learn shuvits (frontside, backside, 360, and big spin)
it's not the board, it's the rider

it will just make everything else easier to learn if you have a better drop/get on method. bff is a better distribution of weight and speed. making you less likely to fall, mess up, and slow down. so yes, it will be faster
there is some controversy on that, but that's all you really need to know.

When you start hitting waves remember to lean your rails and it doesn't hurt to drag your hand either. Once I realized I had to distribute my weight it helped me ALOT.

yeah, once i realized to distribute my weight (bend knees more too), run faster, and to start further up the shoreline so i actually could run faster. i started progressing incredibly fast

Yes learn the one-step, some guys I know do the front foot first and some do the back foot first. And both styles seem to work for them. I do the bff, and I'm not sure if it's that much better......just different.
