Default high powered laser pointers are dangerous (obviously)

I hate the fact these things are so easy to get from Taiwan, and by people who have no idea how dangerous they are and use them irresponsibly. This kid bought a 150mw laser, happened to bounce it off a mirror and has likely ruined his vision for life. Considering the availability of these things, I imagine it happens too many times even if it's not widely reported.

Someone ruining their own eyes doesn't bother me nearly as much as someone hitting someone else in the face.

I use a 5mw green laser to point at stars and it's plenty bright. Even then, I had someone hit me in the eye with it accidentally after they asked if they could try it. I guess I am the fool. I almost had to choke a bitch.

    really sad story.

    1. little kids shouldn't be able to buy things off the internet with their parents' credit cards.
    2. high powered lasers shouldn't be this easily available.
    3. where the hell were the parents in all of this?

The boy had ordered a handheld laser pointer with green light on the Internet to use as a toy for popping balloons from a distance and burning holes into paper cards and his sister's sneakers.

You cant tell me that it wouldnt be awesome to have a laser pointer that could pop balloons from 50 yards, especially when youre 15.

I didn't realize they were now selling laser pointers that could burn shit to just anyone... That is crazy... And I'm surprised this hasn't been an issue with sporting events yet...

Damn...I thought we were crazy in college for getting tazers and shocking the shit out of each other. I could see the fun of burning holes in the bottom of peoples cups at parties though.

No, guns (or weapons) are sort of self-regulating. You see, when a bunch of idiots get guns and do stupid things with them, smarter people with guns keep them in check. That's been going on ever since humans have walked upright... only back then, it was just rocks. The most modern version is called the Trident submarine program...
