A study published in the April issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings examined cases from 1970 through 2009 and found that the number of melanoma incidents increased by eight times in young women and four times in young men ages 18 to 39. So having skin cancer at 20 is not so rare.

Regular monthly self skin inspections are necessary in protecting against cancer of the skin. I recommend that once a month, you look at yourself starting from head to feet, spread you hair apart, look in the mouth,
spread your buttocks apart, look in between all your toes to check out any new skin moles or moles that are having new colors in them, which are growing or commencing to burn, itch or bleed. In addition you'll want to examine bug bites or pimples that haven't cured. Normally, those should heal in a matter of few weeks.
