At my moms company, all of the bmw's, audi's, porches etc, are driven by the programmers

yeah all the single programmers i work with drive nice cars. The guys w/ families usually have average cars. Personally even if I was single I don't think I'd have a really nice car, I just put my money into other things. Plus i'm really hard on cars.
